Good to see you posting SS and very pleased to hear all going well.

Being comfortable with SE takes time...me of very worrying nature took over 4 years  and even now causes me more spreadsheet fiddling than my poor brain can cope with :rotfl:

As much as it comes from the Ramsey chap to a degree, I'd advocate living on 2 month's back previous income, that way next month isn't so close to knowing exactly what came in last month and means a good safety net and knowing what you need in 2 months time. I'm still working on that goal though - it's the hardest mindset change I've made. :)

    Totally second everything Ali says:)
    Stay happy:)

    Thank you Noah and Giblet.

I am sooooooo sorrrreeee that I'm not posting very much. So many things are happening that my mind is in a bit of a blur most evenings. All good things though, thank goodness.

Self Employment is definitely a new phase of budgeting. My lovely organised plans are out of the window and we had a slightly spendy phase - you know what its like when you are pushed for time and don't have enough time to keep track of the finances. I'm still not sure where all the emergency fund has gone, but I've checked the outgoings and nothing is awry - its just that we had a lot of outlay for SE.

That phase is coming to an end now and I'm hoping that shortly we will be back on track record-keeping-wise. Today I went to Sainsbugs for dinner and the only things I bought that I didn't need for dinner were two tins of beans and a large pack of Richmond sausages on offer for £2 - breakfast tomorrow! Used my money off vouchers and spent less than £20 including a bag of spuds from the farm shop (there may be sausage and mash later in the week too!).

I've also been spending my lunch breaks in the charity shops - sometimes taking stuff in and sometimes buying things. I've ended up with some lovely things which look new for a fraction of the new cost. CS's are going to be my first stop before even thinking about new in future. I also had a letter from Sue Ryder already thanking me for my donations which made over £20.

Just a few more days and I will be able to take a breath for a week or two, then will be another mad phase. Exciting stuff though.

Right, off to have a fly round the threads and then a good rest tonight. Take care all - hugs and good wishes to you all xx

ps, just to say its nearly time to refinance the car which means I will soon owe under £8k on it - never thought that time would come :)

  • Don't count the tyres, include the passenger seat instead. It doesn't wear out.

Just checking my financials and found that I have:

£7 in my Berk-clays Blue Rewards already (got to work out if I just spend that or if there's a better way to make the most of it).
£3.31 on my Booots Advantages Card
£3 on my Soooperdrug Card (found that out from their email yesterday as I'd forgotten all about that card).
    £1.57 Necktar points
£8.37 left over in my saver account which I use for a couple of direct debits (must close that down and start using my new Hallifax account to get the £5 a month)
3600 points on my Tessco Cloobcard which will be £36 in June methinks. I was going to use these to get my RAC cover but realised that for £13.50/mth I can get better cover from my bank, and its even cheaper with the £4 net cashback now that I've finally gotten rid of the overdraft for good (well its still there but no longer free, which means I won't use it except in emergencies).
3200 on my Morries card, so I'm heading towards another fiver soon.
36p on Quidco and another 25p on way. I'm waiting for June so that I can downgrade my account from Premium. Frustrating that you can't set it in motion earlier, hope I don't forget.

Amazing that there is about £65 in that little lot, feels like the hard work is paying off. Am just about to alter my signature too as the SF is actually £4315.43 (yayyy). Which makes the balance £8,984.57 and if I add that to my car is approximately £17,300. I don't normally count that car in my total, but its nice to see it well under £20k. I'm not mentioning the business loan at all as I feel that's a separate thing of the business to pay (i.e. the business owes that, not me! Luckily the business is working hard and is paying its way :)).

I've also got plans to reduce my mobile phone plan later this year and OH's early next year. OH is really getting into money saving lately - I think we may have a convert soon. :T

Excellent SS, well done and to OH being on board :T

You have to invest to get the return with business, so I agree whole-heartedly with not counting that side of things. The fact it's paying it's way already is superb - a quick return is a healthy place to be :T
