Hoover or Beko washing machine?

Last weekend my Hoover washing machine was making a terrible noise and I can tell that something has broken off under the drum. I doubt it'll be worth fixing a machine that's several years old so am going to buy a new one and have narrowed it down to a choice between two models - a Hoover and a Beko:

My current washing machine is a Hoover and it's served me very well up until now. I've had a Beko fridge/freezer for at least 10 years and haven't had any problems with it. The Beko washing machine only has a year's guarantee whilst Hoover has five years on parts and one on labour.

Argos will deliver the hoover one, install it and take away the old machine. With the Beko one it's £15 to take the old one but they don't do installation (the overall cost of both machines is near enough the same).

The Beko one can be delivered to me on a Saturday but the Argos one just says within 7 days and that they call you. I don't want to have to take a day off work just to take delivery, especially as it's a new job. I'm a bit concerned how I'd be able to manage shifting a washing machine myself, knowing how heavy they are, but the installation side just looks like connecting two hoses (and my ex-husband managed to connect my current one, so it must have been easy!).

There are so many pros and cons that I've utterly confused myself, so it would be good to have opinions from others on what current Hoover and Beko washing machines are like and whether Argos do Saturday deliveries - thanks!

Why don't you sign-up to £1 Which trial. http://www.which.co.uk/ - cancel well in time within the month

    They do good test reviews

I've had Whirlpool and Zanussi in the past.
  • I've got a Beko washing machine, bought it when our old machine broke down, it was one of the cheapest I could find. Four years on it is still working well and it gets the clothes clean. It doesn't have some of the fancy features some of the more expensive machines have but it mixes water with soap, spins your clothes around and the come out clean, what more do you want it to do. It cost about half of what the whirlpool machine it replaced cost, although that gave me ten years of solid service.

With all that said if the cost of the two machines is almost identical when you factor everything in you may be better off with the Hoover particularly as it has the better warranty. Also check the energy rating and water consumption figures for both. The cheaper machines sometimes are less efficient so will cost more, particularly if you are on a water meter as well.

Not had anything delivered by Argos in a while but I have had Saturday deliveries in the past, I seem to recall paying a premium for Saturday delivery.

I have a beko. Had it a year now and it's fantastic. Also had a beko dishwasher for a few years and it's similarly very good, no problems to date. Try ao.com I think they are cheaper than Argos. They do delivery any time between 7-7 for free or you can pay £20 for a more specific timeslot.

I bought a Hoover a couple of months ago. It was faulty on the first wash - these things happen of course, but Hoover service don't answer the phone!! I waited once 10 minutes to soeak to someone who had a frozen computer. He gave me a different number which didn't answer within 10 mins.

Tried on a different day and waited 20 minutes! didn't speak to anyone at all. Checked their facebook page while waiting and it's fair to say I'm not the only one! It's not acceptable in this day and age.

I phoned the retailer and rejected it. Bought a more expensive Hotpoint as I know that the service team pick up the phone and the man comes quickly enough.

I bought a Beko about 1 year ago had no problems.

Check the Co-OP if you want a bargain, they had a great deal which was about £60.00 cheaper than Argos etc.

I also have a Beko and find it does exactly what's needed. No problems since I bought it 12 months ago.

    Hi.

They both look good machines. What size family do you have?

It's just I bought a BUSH washer from Argos nearly 4 years ago. I started a thread on ukwhitegoods.co.uk to share my experience of having one of these as there is very little information available about the brand.

It's Argos own brand you see. All the reviews on Argos.co.uk are from people that have had it only for a few weeks so they are all good. Well anyway my posts on BUSH were shot down in flames and I was being accused of working at Argos or being from China (where the machine was made apparently) as I was reporting that for £180 the machine has been a good buy. I updated the thread at year 1, year 2, year 3 etc.

It seems that unless you buy BOSCH or MIELE then everything else is rubbish.

I have a good experience of BUSH and before that of HOOVER and BEKO. Take some of the advice you get with a pinch of salt as everyone will have a good or bad experience with a brand.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

    :)

Over the years we have had hotpoint and Hoover washing machines and washer dryers. The Hoover lasted a couple of years and then was uneconomical to repair as it had a circuit board fault. Bought a hotpoint washer dryer and we have had it for perhaps 3-4 years, it literally broke down at 13months old, it had a parts guarantee but the labour and call out was £99 pr the year cover at £150, we opted for the latter and was glad we did, have renewed on one of their rolling service deals as it has broke down countless times, circuit board faults, leaks, door problem and just a week or so ago it needed the bearings replacing. This year ends in a month or two on the service contract so think we will stick it up on ebay, and buy a cheap and cheerful washing machine...will have minimum of 12months guarantee, will get an extra years warranty with nationwide bank account, and then if it breaks will just buy another one.
Will try and buy one without the computer circuit boards as they are very expensive to repair out of warranty.
Don't be fooled by the 5years parts warranty as they just get you on the labour

If you want long term reliability then Bosch, Siemens or Miele.
