Due to my son soon to be having the spare room my very expensive fishing tackle will have to be moved to my garage. I am also looking to sort out my contents insurance and struggling to find one that covers "garage" contents for more than £2500, now my tackle is worth in the region of £7000 to replace (bulk being a £2250 pole). Now if I was to get broken in to it wouldn't cover half of my stuff. I know I can get specific insurance for fishing tackle alone but I don't want to be paying 3 lots of insurance i.e. Car, Contents & Fishing Tackle.

Can anyone recommend an insurer with higher garage contents coverage? I do I just add my stuff in to the "specific items valued over £2000" bit of the home contents insurance?

Also the house and garage itself are separate it goes 2 garages 4 houses and then 2 garages in a row. Would this still count as being on my property?

Thank You

Some policies will cover contents of outbuildings up to £5k. They may consider a higher limit if you have approved locks on the garage but the premium may be higher.

If the garage is not within the boundaries of the home you will need to check with specific insurers. They may require it to be in sight, on the deeds of the property and certain security, eg.

Could you consider keeping the fishing equipment inside the house? Maybe your son could give up a bit of space. It may still need to be declared if it's over the individual item, collection limit.

Make sure that any policy limits will cover you.

You'll need to shop around and adjust the cover as required. You may have to ring individual insures also.

If you just want to go for a high level of cover maybe try

make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • You could insure each rod as a separate item then even your £2200 rod would be OK. I have done this with my photographic stuff (not that it lives in a garage!).

You could try a local broker, no Swintons, as there are upper end policies that arent sold direct that have less concerns with where items are stored, subject to normal due care. Obviously higher quality policies = higher premiums

    Hi,

Some of the rods could be being a match fisherman then it would be up and down constantly

Most insurances that I have found have a specific item from £1500 and that's fine for my pole, but most of my rods etc are under £200

I dont know where you live to know who is local to you. Any advisory broker should be fine, just avoid Swintons
  • Swintons do policies that cover upto £10000 and £15000 for cover within the garage or outbuildings. When doing a quote mention you require this cover, they do have insurers on the panel that will quote for this, and they can confirm what level you need cover for.

But any other local broker will do that and more and have the advantage of not being swintons
