I think 192 can be a bit limited. As folk can now opt out of having their details publically displayed when they fill in the voter registration forms.

The easiest way to order the birth certificate is from https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp

This is without extra fees - the easiest way is with the reference numbers - they were on the PM I sent you - this will give you exact date of birth

However you now know which year they each would have left school so if you have an idea as to the town they grew up in that may help
  • Hi,

A few years ago I was trying to find a relative and I found this service http://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/uki/FamilyTracing I didn't go ahead and use them and that is a decision that I regret.

I tried ancestry and 192 and just couldn't find them. Then news of them reached me that it was too late.

    All the best.

Thanks for your hep, a birth certificate is not going to guide me to more answers, I need addresses etc to where I can begin my further search. messages to each and every person on FB with the exact same name have been sent.

You know the mother name I gave is there any further info that would help me, again age or addresses, etc

I suggest you try facebook, or friendsreunited first.

online phone directory can help if they have an unusual surname and you have a good idea of location.
  • I have actually researched my family tree, and have over 2000 members in my tree. The best thing I can recommend is if you can find them in the birth index, start creating your family tree. Eventually you will get 'hints' that other people have added the same information to their tree, and you get to meet other members you are related to, who may have information for you. I've skyped a 3rd cousin in Australia, and 2 in Ireland. Amazing what ancestry can do.

The birth certificate (apart from exact name & date of birth + parents exact names) will give the address the parents were living at. You can then check the electoral register for that address, to see how long they stayed there, you can write to, or visit neighbours and see if anyone remembers the family or is still in contact.

Are the parents still alive, or is that not known ? If not, checking, and then getting a copy of their death certificates may give you the name and address of a child (as the informant on the death registration).

Is there any chance the child was adopted ?

These types of enquiry can be very difficult, and usually require time and money to be spent on them, but in most cases can be solved.

    Good luck
