Post Office Broadband

Turns out i am not in what companys refer to as 'networked areas' so i get all the dearer deals.

I have looked on broadband choices and the post office comes out cheapest.

Anyone use them what they like?

Also noticed there price changes form 14th april, which means broadband gets cheaper but phone price goes up.

Will this reduction in broadband apply if i sign up now?

However if you pay line rental unfront you can still get it for £10.

I would save £10 a month on my current package, though they offered me a better deal that would mean it would only be about £2 dearer this was with the sting of a 24 month contract, not a fan of long contracts.

Post office resell talk talk so if you are happy to have talk talk make sure po is cheaper than going direct.

I have had Post Office broadband for at least a couple of years now. Their customer service is a little flaky, the free routers very flaky, their tech support pretty good (they have now replaced two routers for me without quibble, and take my word when I say I've turned it on and off and changed the microfilter without making me go through it again) and the connection fairly stable.

I compare from time to time and to date haven't found a cheaper unlimited deal in my area (BT Wholesale only). Even Sky's "half price line rental" and broadband package is more expensive. Also I like the extra benefit of free weekend calls to mobiles.

I have had a letter informing me of the price changes, so it would appear they will apply to all customers (new and old).

We've been a customer since 2012 & had no problems until last Aug/Sept when they changed their supplier to TalkTalk. Since then our service has been getting steadily worse with several 'downtimes' nearly every day. Sometimes only seconds at a time but quite often for several minutes or even longer, which is extremely frustrating if you're in the middle of watching a film & annoying for my youngest son when doing his college coursework online.
Also I was unable to read my online bills from about the same time as the changeover, just getting a solid black page. I complained several times & it has now been fixed.
We are heavy users & knowing this, opted for their Premium Service which offered unlimited download, but be aware that it's not TOTALLY unlimited....we've just received a rather abrupt letter telling us that we exceeded the 'Fair Use Policy' of 100GB per month & if we do so again, they will reduce our upload & download speeds for the remainder of the month.
We have been thinking of changing ISP's for a while now because of these problems but do not know who to change to. There are a few who now offer a totally unlimited download service, BT being one but I've been reading some bad things about them on here!
It seems ALL isp's have their lovers & haters, just depends who you talk to!

All unlimited tariffs have some FUP in place-it's how they enforce it that matters.

BT's FUP says NO limits at all....

I will probably end up going back to BT (was a customer many years ago) & end up paying more than at the moment but for us it's probably worth it to get a really no limit download.

No limits but ask about their traffic shaping.

Priority given to emails and web browsing etc. Then video calls and streaming?

If your usage exceeds 100GB in any month, we may write to you to request that you moderate your usage. If your usage subsequently exceeds 100GB in two consecutive months or for a fifth month in any 12 month period, we may contact you again asking you to moderate your usage, and warn you that we may reduce your internet access speeds, download speeds and upload speeds.

If you continue to use the Service excessively for a third consecutive month, or for a sixth month in any 12-month period, we may reduce your internet access speeds, download speeds and upload speeds. We will contact you before reducing the speed of your Service.
Looks like you can go over it every other month and get away with it (getting nothing but the occasional cross letter). It should be fairly easy to exploit that.

I don't use their online billing, so I can't speak on that, as I just pay on receipt of the bill (which they don't charge me extra for). Certainly I have had problems with the customer services not being very good, and during the changeover I didn't get a bill for 6 months.

I often watch NowTV in its supposed HD mode (720p) and don't have any issues with buffering.

In your instance the problem could your line, the BT network in your area getting more congested (which would likely affect any provider reselling BT Wholesale) or it could be once the traffic has been transferred to Post Office/Talk Talk's network. There's only one easy way to find out though - ditch and switch, and let us know how you get on!
