it's normaly cheaper with virgin if you have broadband and phone both rather than broadband only.

I pay 12.50 for first 6 motnhs and than 18pounds after that for phone and broadband 30mb.

with broadband only they dont like going under 20 most of the time and standard price is 24 or 25 pounds i think.

So i wouldnt really cancel phone but give them the call and say you want to move to talk talk and they will most likly price match that deal or close to that, like they have done with mine.

Well it was and it wasn't when we signed up ie: it was cheaper to get broadband only, BUT theyd charge an installation fee, so it was cheaper to get a landline

Considering we rarely use the landline, Im not interested in a "deal" which makes it cheaper tbh

The offer they currently have (without haggling) atm is:

    (With line rental)
    "Up to" 50Mb bb for:

    £7.50/month for 6 months + £15.99 line rental (£140.94)
    £15/month thereafter + £15.99 line rental (£371.88 over 12 months)
    18 month contract

Over the 18 months, that works out as: £28.49/month

    Or £512.82/length of contract
    Or £341.88/year

    Broadband only:
    "Up to 50Mb" BB for
£20/month for three months, and £25 thereafter
    12 month contract

Over 12 months that works out as £285 or £23.75/month

So a saving of £56.88/year. We currently pay £33.64/month, so even without haggling , that's a saving of £118.68 for switching, and overall £175.56,making the handset pay for itself pretty quickly

And that's without trying to get a better deal - it also means we go from 30Mb/s to 50Mb/s :D

Graham1: If I read the thread correctly, that number translation should be possible with PBXes, correct?

Yes, I've set mine up so I can dial on the VOIP phone exactly as I would on a regular land line (6 digit local numbers, 11 digit national numbers, freefone numbers, 999, international numbers) and get the same correct destination irrespective of using a U.K or a non-U.K. VOIP provider.

So I've ot my gigaset phone, but I can't put in the providers I want? ie: Didlogic, VOIPCheap and callwithus?

Of course, Id probably want to tinker with PBXes once Ive got this sorted :)

Id like to manually be able to put in certain settings :)

EDIT: I have found the GUI for the N300A IP :D

And would you consider DIDLogic a "US provider" or not? THey seem to have some systems in the UK, but the rates are all set in dollars

well that's up to you. But just because you have landline doesn't mean you need to use it.

You said it works out at £23.75/month for 50mb broadband but if you have phone line with them and a phone call to retention it could be £15.50
bytheway virgin have started to upgrade 30mb customer to 50mb, thats why you dont see 30mb package on there website

Well we also have virgin mobile with them as well. Ill see what they say at retentions. If it's cheaper to ditch the phone, Ill ditch it. If it's cheaper to keep the phone, Ill keep it :)

Actually they are a Hong Kong company but have SIP gateways in quite a few international cities. If you register your phone or device to their London gateway this keeps the Internet part of the traffic path shortest and minimises latency for U.K calls.

Non-Europe means no VAT added to the call charges, but there is a small currency exchange cost when topping up because of the U.S. dollar billing.

Yes, to clarify this for later readers. one VoIP account can be set using the handset, but to set up more log in at the control unit's local IP address, probably in the form 192.168.0.n

Not if you have the correct credit/debit card :D (Though of course exchange rates change etc.. )

Also, my gigaset was taking VoIP calls before, and then suddenly, it randomly stopped taking them? The phone realised that it came through, but it went to a missed call afterwards? ie: first few times it worked, but after a while, all phone calls are showing as "missed" by the phone...

So now outgoing settings work, both separately and via PBX

Seems I have a slight issue, with receiving incoming numbers via PBX

So I've got outgoing settings for each provider set up fine. I've decided to stick with:

DidLogic/SipGate because of their UK SIP End points, as well as using mobiles to ring UK "normal" numbers for the most part

    CallWithUs because they're cheap :D

Any way, setting the providers up separately and trying to connect, I can do so, but connecting via PBX, there appears to be an issue with DIDLogic

Here's how PBXes.com has been set up:

    Extensions:

Display Name: < Public Tel Number> (provided via Sipgate)

    SIP/CallWithUs: No Dial Rules

    SIP/DIDLogic: (DIal Rules)
    441+01|XXXXXXXXX
    442+02|XXXXXXXXX
    443+03|XXXXXXXXX
    447+07|XXXXXXXXX
    448+08|XXXXXXXXX

    Sip/SIPGate: No Dial Rules

    Inbound Routing:

    Sipgate/
    Trunk: Sipgate
    Extension: <Telephone Number><100>
(No detail regarding any "office hours")

    Outbound Routing:

    0 08Numbers:
    Trunk Sequence 0 SIP/Sipgate
    Numbers starting by:
    0500
    0800
    0808
    0844
    0845
    999
    112

    1 Intl:
    Trunk Sequence 0 SIP/CallWithUs
    Numbers starting by:
    00923

    2 Default:
    Trunk Sequence 0 SIP/DIDLogic
    Custom dial numbers:
    01XXXXXXXXX
    02XXXXXXXXX
    03XXXXXXXXX
    07XXXXXXXXX
    08XXXXXXXXX

I tested a call to PlusNet broadband (0800 NUmber) as well as HAstings Direct Smart Miles (0844 number) and they show as going through to Sipate as "dial" These get through via SipGate

I found a random Pakistani mobile number on the internet and rang that (00923 prefix), and that went fine via CallWithUs

I also found an 0843 number, and used my mobile phone number to call to, and they went via DIDLogic

Also, I'm not sure why earlier you used both a + and an | in the DIDLogic dial rules?

    EDITED: Fixed (mainly)

I suggest leaving the Trunk field in your inbound route blank - in case it is not recognising where the call is being routed from. It's a good idea to have a default inbound route anyway, even if if you also have an inbound route for Sipgate. Any incoming call which does not match any of the defined inbound routes will be rejected.

Your phone device is registering to pbxes.org isn't it ? Normally the phone login name will be something like aaaaaa-1 or aaaaaa-100 where aaaaaa is you PBX name and 1 (or 100) is the extension number. The Extension field in the inbound route must be the same as the login name your phone device is using.

If it still doesn't work try experimenting with any registration timer parameter in your phone device. A common value is 3600 seconds, try reducing it to 119 or 59 seconds.

Dial rule 441+01|XXXXXXXXX means take any number starting with 01 which is followed by exactly 9 digits and substitute 441 in place of the 01 and then send the other 9 digits unchanged. I.e. change a U.K. number to an E.164 style number with no prefix.
