stolen pet cat

I do think the lady who 'brought' the cat should be entitled to all the cost involved in keeping the cat for the period she has. . £200 does sound a lot of money but if you break it down, how much did she pay for the cat? a check up at my vets costs £50 plus any treatments, it was probably wormed given flea treatment also vaccinations. How long did she have the cat for? cost of food could be £1 per day and she may have rounded all this up as understandably she is upset to have to give the cat back!
I think she should be paid the amount ONCE she provides proof of the vets bill even if she doesn't still have the original receipt it can't be difficult for her to get a copy from the vet.
I also think you friend did the right and brave thing in reporting her daughter to the police (that can't have been easy) her daughter does need to take responsibility for this.0 -

The same could be said for any previous health certificates from a doctor or vet.
It would still be something 'useful' though. I know neither are guarantees.
Same if someone, for example, put a mod kit on a stolen car. I would expect them to be able to remove their purchases from the car before it was returned.
I know a few people who had cars/bikes stolen who had to pay £250 to get their own property out of the police impound (probably called something different!)
The fact the police have not removed the stolen 'property' yet means that the 'owner' needs to wait until they do. They seem to want it before that, to ease the suffering of their little girl...
There needs to be some financial loss/consequences. Otherwise the daughter will be selling the tele next week, police getting it back, for free, the next. iPod the week after. etc etc...At the moment the only 'loss' will be to the new cat owner, knowing or unknowing...0 -

A blood test can easily get you up to £75, plus I imagine she wants whatever she paid for the cat back too. That does not seem to have been mentioned...0 -

Ignorance of this is no defence.
That would be my opinion too.
OP, noone is insulting anyone (post 8), we are just merely giving our opinions.
IMO, the DD should reimburse the current holder of the cat.

Quite right too.
However, I do find it strange that you have actually thanked that post.0 -
The amount paid for the cat is not in question and was immediately offered, the £200 is just in regard to the vet bill.
I haven't used any bad language I just sujested that you go shopping at fcuk, I here they have a sale on lives at the moment.
Sorry , the thread reads like a lot of dysfunctional people and a poor cat that has to undure all of this.
It is so easy to confirm if the bill was paid and for how much by simply calling the vet where the check up was completed.
I'm sure the police agents are wise enough to do that, as others have pointed out, stop harbouring on the new owner and the vet bill, your friend has a theiving daughter that needs to learn sooner rather than later of why what she has done is WRONG! This time it's a family pet, next time who knows what she may sell?0 -
To quote Lex Luthor from Superman Returns, WRONG! You did not use that context or alteration to the order of the letters. You did not intend that meaning. Sale on lives my foot...The amount paid for the cat is not in question and was immediately offered, the £200 is just in regard to the vet bill.

OK it seems that on inspection of the daughters phone after it was taken from her as part of the punishment for stealing the cat in the first place that according to texts there was actually a plan that she was to take the cat around the friends house and then when it was reported missing claim a reward to be split, the remarkable thing being that it was the friends mother rather than the friend that planned this! However they then decided they would get more money by doing this not thinking that the police would become involved, the cat is now back with its owners. Would hate to be the officers trying to sort this one out but think this is now a case of fraud.
Sorry but rereading the posts I still feel that this thread was jumped on by people with bad attitudes and no intention of being helpful to the discussion, shame this forum used to be such a nice place.
Thanks to all those who did try to be helpful.0 -
I believe this outcome. 100%
Why would the daughter believe a reward would be offered if the mams too skint to afford £200.
Yeah right.0
