Is Norton worth renewing?

Hi everyone - my motter has a Windows 7 PC and it was packaged with Norton anti-virus when she bought it 3 years ago and which she has been renewing each year. It's up for renewal again and she showed me the email notification and they say it will cost £64.99 for another year. This seemed quite high to me but there again I have been an Apple user for years and not had to bother with anti-virus products as it's built in and I'm not really up on anti-virus products or costs.
Is Norton good and it is worth the £64.99 - what is the alternative? The complacement side of me says just renew as it's easier but the cost is niggling me a bit.
thanks for any advice

No, alstemp, and I think you'll find the general consensus is that Norton should be removed and replaced with one of the free anti-virus programs. I use Avast, the free version, and have done for a number of years. £64 is a lot of money to splash out for something that may be had for free. :cool:0

May be and certainly not respectively. Is Norton good and it is worth the £64.99
Download Avast; uninstall Norton (fully), install Avast.

Avast currently provides an annoying "you have been updated" message and annual renewal is a pain. (make sure the free version is selected). However, using it is a no-brainer.0 -
Turn the update messages off if they are annoying you...;)grumpycrab wrote: »May be and certainly not respectively.

avast renewal is a couple of clicks, once per year, painfree and free.
just untick the bundled chrome during installation.
£65 for norton is ridiculous, it's 29.99 on their own site (and cheaper elsewhere), which is still 29.99 more than avast free which is the easiest/cheapest/simplest option.!!

You could get Norton Internet Security 2013 for £16 from Amazon. This will be upgradeable to whatever the newest version is called.
Renewing Norton AV online has always been the most staggering rip-off.0 -
My Norton renewal cost £30 online (Norton 360).0

Just renewed my Kaspersky Internet Security at £4.99 via purchasing an unused older licence that upgrades to current versions .
Dont believe that the current Norton is worth more than £20 .
Good i would put it below Avast .
Is a change of security product going to complicate matters for the user would be my starting point .0 -
My PC has AVG Free installed.
My new Notebook came with Kaspersky, but I've installed AVG Free instead.
I've been using AVG free for years, and find it excellent. :cool:0 -
you might want to do a malwarebytes scan, to see if it's missed anything. kaspersky usually beats avg by a long way in AV tests.
