Flat screen manufacturers

Is it true that there may be less than a dozen flat screen manufacturers in the world - with most of the cheaper range being manufactured on exactly the same production lines as Sony, Panasonic or any of the other more expensive lines ?
I know that Logik makes certain Samsung models and is also linked to Alba - but is there really THAT much difference between brands ?

Logik don't make anything its just a DSG brand name. DSG buy in from various usually cheap manufactures and have the Logik brand name put on the products.
Alba are owned by the group who own Argos, so no connection to Logik.

Thanks - that is what I meant - the core of the display
So you reckon that a single manufacturer may produce, say a 32" grade A and a 32" grade B - I doubt it, that would be more expensive than producing everything grade A...0 -
A bit like computer chips they are probably batch graded .
You build to a specification and those that fail are downgraded dependant upon whatever the specifications are .
CPU block tested at 2GHz those that just fail to pass are downgraded to 1.7GHz is an example .0 -
What I was wondering was whether, for example our £150 32" Logic screen was really that much lower quality than our £300 32" Panasonic ? - because I can't see any difference...0

I'll tell you what a Panasonic service manager once told me. When the likes of Panasonic and others launch a new TV, the box-shifters (like ARGOS, Bennetts, Hughes and the various online traders) will bulk order a massive quantity for immediate delivery whether or not the TV has been thoroughly tested prior to release.
If the TV is subsequently found to have a fault only discovered after prolonged testing, the retailers will sell sufficient sets to generate a set profit level. At this point they off-load the remaining stock to one of 2 companies who then strip down the TVs and use all the non-faulty parts to make the TVs that go out branded 'Alba', 'Grundig', 'Red' etc. rather than fitting the repair kit.
The independents however, will fit the free repair kit and so all their TVs will be fault-free.
This has been going on for years. I had a 'Grundig' brand set that actually had a Tatung mainboard.Never Knowingly Understood.

So there could be some truth to my original point that Samsung, Logic and Alba may have shared components ?0
