Orange / Phones 4 U Mobile Contract
I was currently paying Orange £55 per month for a Contract Phone the contract came to an end in November 2013 but I kept it going as I was happy.
I decided to check out new phones as cheaper tariffs, and was looking on Orange website, I decided to go for a Samsung GS4 with unlimited minutes/text and 1gb data limit for £32pm and £19.99 for the phone & 1p for delivery.
Orange sales told me I had to swap to PAYG to end old contract and then when the SIM arrived to call them to swap back as this would finalise the bill and start the new contract on the new tariff.
I did this and all was hunky-dory until I "failed" their credit check and the phone call was ended rather abruptly.
I then decided to check out P4U just hours later and low and behold the exact same phone and the exact same tariff was sold and delivered for free...
Do I have a right to complain to orange about this and ask them to remove the credit search and failure from my Credit History?

For starters you have no need to go PAYG
you were given that option.
Were you doing an upgrade or a new contract? 2 different things
What P4U offers is irrelevant. Why would Orange have to remove the credit search?0 -

PAYG was offered to end contract and allow them to send out final Bill
(This was not given as an option) Note from Orange states "Transfer" and "To ensure your pay monthly account is disconnected"
I was starting a new contract with a new phone and new tariff with my old number.
P4U might be irrelevant to you but I was explaining that they offered the same phone on the same tariff with orange and accepted me.
I wanted to know if the search could be removed so it does not have an adverse affect as my credit will now show two searches by orange one fail and one accepted.20 Years working in Retail and serving customers but I have yet to receive good customer service back.0 -
once more, you can/could cancel your contract
using the PAYG option means using that as a method to cancel and transfer.
I have ended many contracts with Orange and used both methods.
EXplain the upgrade process you had? A PAYG sim with your old number and a new contract with the same number?
P4U can offer deals and give credit to anyone they wish.
Im off to work but Im sure others will advise0 -
To clarify:
On Monday (17th March) I called Orange to ask them about changing my phone and tariff and asked to keep my number.
Agent told me the best way was to transfer my number to a PAYG Sim and when it arrived to call them back and Transfer back to Pay Monthly with the new phone and tariff I wanted.
The PAYG Sim arrived Wednesday Morning and I telephoned Orange at 10am to activate Sim and revert back to Pay Monthly.
This was done until Customer Services put me through to sales and I Failed the credit check the sales agent said "Sorry" & "Goodbye" and put phone down.
I went on P4U website about 3pm and got the same phone on the same tariff with Orange and the phone was delivered on Thursday 20th March.
This phone is working and is activated but with a new number.
So my original question was can I complain to Orange for refusing my 3rd Contract with them and then accepting me through P4U on the same day and can I ask them to either change or remove their entry on my credit file if it says I was declined when a few hours later I was accepted as surely Orange has the right to say to P4U NO we don't want this customer.20 Years working in Retail and serving customers but I have yet to receive good customer service back.0 -

You can always ask but not sure it'll get you anywhere although I can see your point that it is a bit unfair they have done 2 searches on you. Have you actually checked your credit report to see what it says?
I worked for Orange for a long time however I am not 100% on whether phones 4 u do their own credit check which Orange 'accept', if passed.
As for the deal, you were told to go on payg because that way you coukd keep your number. The deal you wanted was obviously not available as an upgrade so they had to give it on a new connection.
This is what p4u have done.0 -
Also, searches don't show whether they are declined or accepted, just that they were carried out.0
