But you still must have done the returns for the last 3 years. Even if they were late.Deleted_User wrote: »So what is going to happen to all these people who are being overpaid and are not coming forward.
I guess lots will get away with it.
But lets penalise the ones who want to put it right and pay back:(
How is paying back what you owe being penalised ?
You are starting to come across as if you want a reward or medal for owning up.0 -

I know I still have to do a return and I did. And i now have an accountant to check it up and make sure I did correctly and if not fix it.
I am saying that I think it will be unfair if I am to be penalised.
I am not saying that I want them to waive my debt away or give a trophy.
By being penalised I mean a custody sentence or a criminal record that will affect my job perspectives. Not only mine but my H's too.
AGAIN: I am not justifying myself.0 -
Unless it's a huge overpayment prison is highly unlikely.
Whose name is the claim in? If it's yours then why would it damage hubby's work prospects.
I can understand how scared you are- I'm assuming this is the first time you have been in this position. What's your real fear other than prison? Maybe I can try to put your mind at rest. You have done the wrong thing but at least you want to put it right.0 -

Those people not coming forward get caught eventually and won't get credit for coming forward. It won't stop you being prosecuted but if you are the bench are likely to be more lenient on you. Sooner or later your claim will go into review an you will lose the credit for any voluntary disclosure.
If you are really worried go on the sentencing councils website & look at the guidelines for benefit fraud- it'll tell you the wrist case scenario.0 -
Right, Deleted_User let dippy help you. They are here typing out posts saying they will help you! This can be sorted.
Firstly, reply to dippy.
Secondly, from working out your income you are now in a position to post figures on here...
Lastly, breathe. Others in the future will benefit from this thread if you see it through to the end xx0 -
The claim is in my H's name. My name is not there but the claim is made on his behalf and his partner, myself.
Even though he didn't updated it either, he assumed I was dealing with it all, because I am the one supposed to do the administration of the household.0 -

My fears are prison (either me or my H) or a criminal record.
Or be named and shamed for everyone to see.
One more question:
When they call interviews, can my H and I go together and do we have any say on he date/time? We both have to sort time off and arrange childcare if necessary.0 -
I am really sorry and i know it is irrational but I don't feel comfortable with putting figures in here.0
-
Ok don't put exact figures incase you're worried about being identified.
Put rough figures so that people can help x0 -
Deleted_User,
People on here have been very tolerant and fair. Dippy's advice is sound.
Contact the Council TOMORROW; do not wait. The longer you leave it and continue trying to procrastinate, the worse it will be. Just get it sorted as soon as possible - and preferably before someone in the HB office approaches you first. Good luck.0
