Birthday present ideas for a 10 year old boy

I am looking for present ideas for a 10 year old boy. He hates literacy at school, so I think books are out! He is really into his gadgets and has a ds and an ipod that he uses and enjoys a lot. However this kind of thing is out of my budget (£15 max).

Do you think he would be too old for lego? I bought the Lego advent calendar with him in mind (it's the one with the police station), but now it's arrived I'm wondering if he will think it's a bit babyish :o

I don't have children and feel very out of touch so any advice would be very welcome!

    Hey Tiara,

I know what you mean.. kids of that age (especially) boys are so hard to buy for. Not sure of they want toys or more adult things.

A bit boring I know, but how about a voucher (showing my age - I mean gift card) for GAME or somewhere. Or smellies if he is reaching that age.

I'll go away now and someone can give you some much better advice. he he. :rotfl:

We always wrack our brains for 10yo nephew. He wants to be a lorry driver when he's older and likes playing his laptop so we have found some cd roms based on virtual haulage. If he has a pc, cd roms can be good value.

I have found there's no point buying books or toys as they don't seem to get looked at and better admit defeat and build on what they do like.

Thanks guys, glad it's not just me who finds this a tricky age to buy for!

I've got presents for his sisters so I would prefer to get gifts rather than vouchers so that he has something open iykwim, but vouchers will be a last resort option I think.

I will look into cd roms, thank you, he does enjoy playing on the computer so this could be an option.

Is the general concensus that he would be too old for the lego advent calendar? Not sure if I should return it/ try to sell it on/ keep it for myself :rotfl:

Thanks so much for your help :)

I think I would return the Lego calendar. They grow up so quick nowadays, ebn my 8 year old would turn his nose up. i would get him a box of sweets/chocolates and a £10 itunes voucher. My kids love the thought of choosing themselves.

My DS is 10 after christmas and he can't wait to start opening the lego advent calendar. He still likes lego and so do lots of his friends.
I saw this on HotUKDeals and I know my son would love this, and its in your price range:

My 11 year old and 9 year old still like Lego and would be happy with the Lego Advent Calendar so I would saynot to return it. If you look in any toy shop you would find Lego kits for older children, so maybe you could get some as a gift?
