Pipex want more money.

My stepson went with Pipex for his internet connection in September 2004 because at the time they advertised no 12 month minimum contract. This suited him fine as he was waiting to go in the armed forces.
In December 2004 he got the letter telling him he would start his army training in January 2005 so he gave 30 days notice to Pipex to terminate his internet access.
Pipex replied asking for £60 for the cost of the modem and another £30 (ish) for something else but we can't remember what this was for. Grudgingly he paid the money.
He has now had two letters form Pipex, the first was in May 2007 which he ignored, asking for another £15. No explanation from Pipex apart from them making an administrative error when he cancelled in 2004 and he should have been charged this at the time.
Has anyone else had a similair problem with Pipex?
Can Pipex actually claim this money?
Should he pay?
It's not the amount that's the problem it's the principal. It's been over 2 years since he cancelled.

Have you called up Pipex to raise a high level complaint yet?0

There are loads of people on this forum complianing about "The Shambles Company." They have comtinually been demanding money from me since cancelling 10 months ago - despite confirmation by phone, email and letter from themselves that I don't owe them anything.

Need to check the T&Cs. That will specify the 12 months. The 30.00 is a 'connection' charge. Whether or not you are held to it or not may depend on what the original notes on the account say, and if they are still visible. If they clearly say you agreed to a 12-month contract you wont have a leg to stand on but if not you may be able to fight it. But 2004 is a long time ago now. Good luck!0

I used to help run an independent Pipex support site (pipexsupport.com) back in those days and, from what I recall, Pipex gave free activation and modem if one stayed with them for 12 months.
Albeit the contract was monthly the above terms were made perfectly clear on joining the company and nobody could complain if asked to repay the costs Pipex had incurred on their behalf.
I can't recall the exact figures from that time but back in March 2002, when I joined, the activation fee was £58.75 (£50+VAT) which we got free if we stayed the 12 months. There were no free modems and frog cost over £100.
It's a known fact that Pipex have had accounting problems since they changed platforms early last year but this wouldn't explain them trying to recoup money from well before that point in time.0 -
Maybe they need the money to pay The Hoff?
Quick call to trading standards might well solve it. Surely you can't claim errors 2 years on?0
