A dinner lady has pulled out my child's tooth, am I overreacting?

I think you'll find the vast majority of parents don't 'go ape' if their kids get hurt at school. The vast majority of parents understand that kids will be kids and that when there's a large group of them running around occassionally they will run into each other. Accidents happen, it's part of growing up.

I'm not sure what's more worrying, that you think all parents are out to 'get' teachers, or that you tried to justify stopping kids doing what kids do. Parents dislike the 'system', not the people in it.

I left school in the early 90's and there were always 3 or 4 teachers in the playground on playground duty. The caretakers were busy doing other things. I'd be very surprised if that has changed since.

The site agents, as they are called now, are not allowed inside the school when the children are in attendance these days, that is why they do early morning and late shifts, it is for their protection as much as the children's in case of false allegations.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

The caretaker works during the day at my son's school.

Early mornings and late shifts are to lock or unlock the building, turn on the lights, etc.

The caretaker in the school I work in and in both my children's schools stay in the school all day.
Our caretaker is only allowed to leave the premises for his break and lunch.

Although they don't supervise in the playground lol. We have dinner supervisors and classroom assistants to supervise outside. I myself am a classroom assistant and supervise at lunchtime.

It could be classed as ABH in a world gone mad :rotfl:

Don't worry about it. The child is fine :)

Contact the daily mail..You and your daughter will get your picture taken with you looking very angry and your daughter looking very very sad...
Do not forget to mention the price of your house...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I am absolutely fuming right now! And my instinct is to go into school and have words, but I just want to check that I'm not being a drama queen about it!

Basically the story goes like this......
On Saturday my dd developed a slight wobble on her tooth, I checked this morning and the back part had come away from the gum, the front still completly intact, it wasn't overly wobbly.
She has come home from school today with a nice gap in the middle. I thought 'wow that came out quick' but she said she has banged her mouth and could taste a little bit of blood. She asked the dinner lady for so e water to swill her mouth out.
The dinner lady then said 'the tooth might go in your belly, so I'll have to pull it out first'
She then pulled it out before giving my dd any water.

We, as parents encourage the to kids to leave their teeth until they are almost disconnected from the gum. Then they have the 'joy' of pulling that last little bit and the new tooth is sat there waiting.

Now if the tooth had been knocked that hard that it had dislodged and was almost out, would there have been a lot of blood( dd said there was a little bit) and wouldn't it have hurt? (Again, she said it didn't and she's a bigger drama queen than I am)

Also don't you think I should have had a phone call, saying what had happened and asking my permission to remove it?
She hasn't even had an accident note sent home with her!

So whats your thoughts? Am I overreacting? Or is it wrong that a dinner lady can do this?

    OVERREACTING is an understatement.

The lunchtime supervisor (dinner ladies are the ones that work in the kitchen) probably thought she was helping by pulling the child's tooth, if it was done maliciously it would be a different story. However she shouldn't have put herself in that situation, i'm a lunchtime supervisor myself and we've been warned that some parents do overreact so we shouldn't give them a reason to, I won't even pull a loose scab hanging by a thread because of reasons like this.

When I was at primary school it was almost compulsory for the dinner lady to pull our teeth out she gave a sixpence for each tooth it must have cost her a fortune...
