Hello
I've started this thread after having kept a mortgage free wannabe one which I've decided to stop as my situation is about to change. My OH and I are selling our respective houses and looking to buy one together so my mortgage free journey will be made with 2 incomes and other changes . Plus, living between 2 houses, a long commute to and from work and 2 lots of housework, home maintenance etc leaves little time to keep a thread going in my experience.
So.. i'm going to do a (probably very sporadic) thread on my moving experience and what i might learn about the process along the way... with a MSE theme in it which I can't promise will be full of inspiration or kept up to date but hey..
I put my house on the market last Monday and have a viewing this Saturday. Fingers crossed!!!

Hi Charleyroo. It's exciting and scary all at the same time. I've lived in my current house 3 years, that I bought after my divorce and it's my little castle.
I'll look up your thread if that's ok.

Timing's never been my biggest asset! For example, being off work ill recovering from Flu isn't the best time to be having the first viewing on my house but as today is the first time i've been able to catch my breath without having a coughing fit for the past 9 days , I decided to use some energy making a list.
I like lists! Long/short/detailed/brief/colour coded/printed/handwritten... lists are the way to go in my house... Without a list i doubt I'd get booger all done
So i made a list of all the jobs that need doing before the viewing on Saturday and here it is:
* clean oven. Yeah really... I'm that bugged by it..it's filthy! And the viewers might want to look inside it, being built in!
* clean kitchen window above sink where all the gunky splashes are becoming one big blob.
* clean en-suite and main bathroom. Will be lovely to be able to see out of the shower cubicle glass like when it was new (3 yrs ago)
* sweep and mop hall and kitchen floors.
* run dishwasher and washing machine on hottest setting to flush them both through (both integrated and part of the house sale)
*Tidy understairs cupboard.
*Do ironing that's shoved in said cupboard.
*have a general tidy up
So far, I've got the oven cleaner stuff working away in the oven and will leave till later to clean that off. The dishwasher is running on empty too. A bit worried though, cos i've used up all my energy just doing those jobs but every little helps i guess. And there's tomorrow to finish them but I'm probably going to have to ask DS to help. This bug has really floored me
There's just one thing for it then...chocolate and a cuppa ..0 -
Today I'm getting my mojo back and tackling the to-do list. (Not the Mike Gayle book of the same name I may add, but MY one!). First a trip to chemist for my prescription and to shop for fruit/veg
Already showered and dressed so best foot forward!0 -
Well all the to-do list was achieved and finished off this morning ready for my first viewing. The couple came and went ... within 10 minutes, asked no questions and so I don't feel positive that there'll be any decent feedback. But, it was my first viewing and there has been a fair bit of interest according to the agent.
Mr Pixnmix has put his house on the market as of today so fingers crossed all round

There hasn't been any feedback or any other viewings on my house since I last popped into here

Mr P's house has been on the market less than a week and he had a viewing on Friday. The people seemed very keen and are in a position to buy but haven't contacted the agent to give any feedback either. I must admit, i find it all a bit rude that neither viewer responded to the agent request for feedback, but there's time yet for the Friday viewers to respond i guess.
Its not that I don't like living here, but we want to have one home between us, lose the long commute and be able to choose, say, a shrub in the garden centre, plant it and know that in 5/10 years time we can still admire it. That might sound daft but I really do feel in limbo right now.
Ah well. It'll sort eventually

Had another 2 people viewing the house since my last entry here, the most recent was yesterday. So that's 3 in 2 months, which isn't exactly fantastic but at least there's some interest. The first couple never did give any feedback. The 2nd said the kitchen was too small for them (it's long and narrow, can't change that) but the couple yesterday really seemed to like the house, but they had several to view so we'll see. The good thing is they liked it, which makes me feel more positive overall.
Mr Pix has had 3 viewings and an offer, but it was a silly offer so he didn't accept it.
So, no news as yet. Hey ho...tomorrow's another day.0 -
Is 3 viewings in 2 months standard for the area you live in as that sounds very slow. This time of year is supposed to be a time with lots of buyers. Maybe have a chat with your agent and see if they have advice to increase viewings.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

Hi Kynthia
I've had a chat with them and to be honest they said there was nothing wrong with the property and the area is nice. Activity in the market isn't as fast as in other places generally but i'm getting above average number of hits on rightmove according to the agent.
I guess one reason I'm not getting more viewings is that i've asked for only people in a position to make an offer to be sent round. I don't want sunday spectators coming to see the house in droves cos that just builds false hope.0
