    If the landlord wants them to move out so rapidly, then they should ask him to meet half if not all of the contract termination costs, or agree to have the contract transferred to his name.

    Ultimately, she is breaking the contract. It is up to her to ask the landlord to mitigate her losses. Charge them against any deposit deductions he may make upon her leaving?
    Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

    Update. She has been told that she can transfer her account to me and I can cancel mine. We then upgrade to what we have now keeping same phone no, email account etc. They have also offered to upgrade the internet connection and give us a £7 per month rebate on our service. There is no charge for this at all. In essence they are waiving the fees and upgrading our service and charging us less than we are currently paying. Costing them more than if they had just waived the fee. Madness but acceptable to us.
