When the lanuch of Chromecast in the UK was first mutted I thought to myself 'great count me in.'
However, when the hype all settled I thought to myself 'not yet' wait until others have tested it and tried it out, wait until I see what it will actually support; what services will Chromecast support here in the UK and of course what price will it be. It strikes me that Apple TV can't be rulled out until we see what others are offering.
Just a few thoughts to see what others think of Chromecast.

Launching this week maybe, for £30 maybe, so you won't have long to wait. Just YouTube might be enough for lots of people anyway...0

I'm not sure, but I believe Chromecast has 1 flaw. If your device goes to sleep, or you go and check your emails whilst streaming a video to your TV, you end-up with your emails on the TV instead (or the stream to the TV is cut).
The main rival (used by all Android devices running Jellybean or newer) is MiraCast. This still streams the movie even when the sending devices screen goes to sleep.
Of course, the system with the best support is DLNA with over 18,000 devices able to use it.Never Knowingly Understood.

I have not found any affect so far with any sleep mode or with using other apps atg the same time.
The Chromecast feed does not cut out on the Nexus 7 tablet or the Moto G phone when transmitting video from the devices I have when the screen goes blank.
Also, if I use a web browser or any other apps on either device it does not display them on the TV as I do not think the Chromecast does not support full android screen mirroring.
Once I have started a video cast it is not interupted when using any other app.
The UK Chromecast should be out this week (tomorrow I think).0 -
I'm using an EZCast dongle I got off Amazon for a song - really simple and unlike chromecast doesn't initiate a stream directly from the web itself , so you can play local content (eg movie from your phone)0

I've just placed an order for one on Amazon... £30 to turn my kitchen TV 'smart' seems like a no-brainer. It's major benefit to me is the small size and compatibility with both Android and iOS. It arrives tomorrow; I'll have a play and feed back to this thread.
I've got Apple TV in my lounge to compare it to0 -
Does anybody know whether the Chromecast works with any monitor with a HDMI input, or is it only TVs? All the publicity seems to say that it plugs into any TV, but I can't see why it wouldn't work with a monitor. Anybody know...?0

Ooh I like the sound of this at that price.Dont rock the boat

David333 - yes, you can plug it into an HDMI port on a monitor. If your monitor has no speakers though, you'll no sound, and presumably there'll be an output on the monitor to pass the sound out somewhere else... There's no other way to get the sound out of the stick other than the HDMI.0
