Mistake On Mum's Headstone
Comments
-
Two points:
1) if the mistake seems to be with two number '5's, then are you sure it's not a fancy font, so it actually is a 5, but has curly end bits on so looks a bit like a 6?
2) surely the people engraving it wouldn't engrave a date in the future i.e. if she died in November 2005, then they were making the headstone in December, it must have been a bit strange for them to write 2006 on it... (it's a bit difficult to plan someone's death so far in advance!!).
my money is on it being a curley font, so it actually says '5' and not '6', but with a squiggly font!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Hi CW, sorry this has happened to you, it must be very upsetting - this actually happened to my step-dad with his mum's headstone and as far as I can recall they sorted it out without any problems, they were keen to correct their error. Trouble was in doing so they got something else wrong - but third time lucky they replaced it with everything correct.0

Hiya
On a positive, I've looked, and from what I can tell from the pic the PLOT number could v well be a 6 so I wouldn't worry about that number. Obviously the other 6 in the year is most definately a 6 not a 5. I spoke to my friend, and he basically reiterated hardpressed's view. Says it's as standard for the company carrying out the work to send you it in writing and then you sign it. Very unusual that they didn't. Said such mistakes do happen but he has always fixed them him/themselves, where responsible as the documentation determines the responsibilty. So, like you've said, your best bet is to talk with your solicitor first I think, then approach the company with what he/she will have suggested. Then you'll know where you stand. Keep us posted, and good luck x0 -
Hi everyone.
well they are not going to do anything about it............heartless b's
I rang them this morning to ask if they guarantee there work....they said they did.......but it would depend what it was..........so I told them about the mistake...........the son of the business said he would look into it and would still have the record's since they only did it last year...........then the father of the business rang back and said that was the date was the one I told him to put on the grave .....so I argued the case saying that when I phoned him in january 2006 that I said the date's were 04/06/1933-24/11/2005 and he said they could only put the year of each date on which was 1933-2005 .............he then said it was my mistake and they would not rectify it............I did not get any writen proof off them............they did not even tell me my the headstone had been put back on the grave.........my brother did that.................he is on his way back from spain at the present so I cannot speak to him yet..........but the stonemason said it was brother who gave them the final date's........which I argued about because it had nothing to do with my brother..........it was me and my mum's solicitor who dealt with it................basically they said they could rectify it at my cost............and they'd go have a look at it in a fortsnight's time when they are in the area.............soooooooooo......I have phoned the solicitor and asked them to look back at the file to see what date was on it...............so that I have some ammo to tactal them with..............this is really getting to me now..........thank's for all your comment they have been wonderful even though they brought a tear to my eye's..........I'll keep you posted...............cw.

You must be feeling very hurt and upset at this, computerwoman, I've no doubt about that. I would be beside myself if I'd found an error in the wording on my Dad's gravestone.
It's little comfort to you, I know, but we do all feel for you. I hope it gets resolved quickly for you.0 -

Definitely.. I would.. there's always uproars in our local papers here when something happens in a Graveyard. More recently they have been told the plot can only be 18" in length and people have to clear them and change them round... it's been in the papers for weeks.
Go for it computerwoman. Why the hell would you tell them your Mum had died a year later than she had?!0 -
This is what a solicitor friend of mine has suggested, as he said they wouldn't like bad publicity, but I have already got my late mum's solicitor on it now. so I will see what come's of that and then if need be make a plan of attack on the stonemason.a quick letter to the local paper may change things in your favour
thanks
