How many newbies can post on a single thread all mentioning a single company - Spamalot Marketing :rotfl:
  • Just got of the phone to the VOA, and i told them i am annoyed that my house is in the wrong band, and they said i got to submit a claim, but they said all information is online, TOTAL UNHELPFULL, i was shocked, payed all this TAX, and then when i am trying to claim it back, not helping me at all. Totally Fed up with the councils and VOA,

I might just use a company to claim this, as i won't have time to this, my next door got a surveyor involved to help with the claim.

I don't think you should have much hope with VOA, Waste of time

Yeah, total waste of time. So much so that on behalf of my neighbours dealing with them and the VTS, I achieved a total refund of over £100,000 over two separate housing estates. That's without any assistance from spammers.

And like Lincroft, our resident expert who has a ton of inside knowledge and has been advising hundreds on here for years, will be happy to help free of charge.

So, there you go folks. You can listen to people who have hardly ever posted, yet miraculously have gravitated towards this thread to promote the same firm. Or you can ask questions and get help from people on here for free, as has always been the case for Money Saving Experts.

I had a call from a company called Hamnett Marketing informing me that I could be in the wrong council tax band and I could be owed ££. ....

That's pretty good going given that Hamnett Marketing Ltd; Company No 08937315 was only incorporated on the 13th March 2014.

Perhaps Hamnett Marketing are digging up leads for Carter Goldmann the 'corporate giant' in the field? :)

I had a call from them, I was in Band C instead of B, Hamnett Marketing have managed to lower my tax band and reclaim the £3400 overpayments I had made over the years.
Its all to do with when government set the council tax bands back in the 90s, they messed up big time, there are millions of homes that are paying the wrong tax. Thanx to Hamnett Marketing otherwise I would never have known
 Hamnett Marketing sound like a breath of fresh air in the contest your council tax band then self promote your company on MSE arena. God bless you Hamnett Marketing :T

I'm so glad someone has got onto this Scam, Dalton & Dalton seized trading leaving thousands of customers out of £165.00 after trading standards started investigating many complaints. Set up a month later with the name Carter Goldman, and have since changed it again to Hamnett. If you believe your in the wrong council tax band contact your local valuation office. Anyone wanting money up front are a scam
  • I did my Council tax rebate through Hamnett Marketing & I just received my payout. What I liked about the service was that fact that I didn't need to get involved myself and they handled every step of it

How can this be true when the company only set up in march 2014 !!!
SCAM !!! Take money up front and what ? Twelve months later company seizes trade,,, fantastic service, leaving you out of pocket

having knowledge & experience within dalton and hamnett marketing, one can say non of these companies are scams. dating back to 1991 the valuations were initially meant to be done by the VOA who were supposed to come out and asses each property within the role of surveyors. Having the government tell them they had a 2 year limit to do this job, they skipped it by giving the job to students & unemployed people who did what is referred to as "second gear evaluation" drove around the streets estimating the price properties.

As a property owner, one presumes the band is determined on the footprint value, square meter and interior of the property - baring in mind if no-one entered the property how can it possibly be in the correct council tax band? (the VOA will not inform you of this government error unless you ask them WHO and HOW was my property valuated, but the normal john/jane doe obviously doesn't study council tax bands day in day out and would not care to ask such a query) the staff at the above companies always inform customers you can for free off charge pursue the investigation independently, they also inform you of the steps you will have to take to do so; which isn't so easy as ringing the council:

    Q. Why can't I just ring the council about it?
    A. You can, but the council only deal with receiving your payments for your council tax band they are under no obligation to inform you that in fact a government department known as the VOA actually dealt with the valuation of the property, which was potentially incorrectly done in 1991-to present.

    Q. Can I not just ring the VOA and ask them what band I'm in?
    A. Again you can, they will tell you to fill out an online application form, which you will do (guinea pig!) it will ask you have you made any major constructions to the property, how many people live there, how many bedrooms ect. (BARING IN MIND IF THE VALUE OF THE PROPERTY WOULD HAVE BEEN CORRECTLY DONE NO STAFF AT THE VOA SHOULD HAVE TO ASK THE PERSON THESE QUESTIONS, THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO CHECK DOCUMENTS DATING BACK TO THE PROPERTIES INITIAL ASSESSMENT AND INFORM YOU OF THIS INFORMATION, AS SAID ABOVE NOT COMMON KNOWLEDGE)

    Q. What does the band go off?
    A. (no offence, but if you have to ask this please get an ipad) it goes off the VALUE OF THE PROPERTY AS FROM THE 1ST OF APRIL 1991 IF YOUR HOUSE NOW HAS AN ATTIC ROOM, A CONSERVATORY AND A EXTRA EN SUITE IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE) making a change to the property does NOT affect the banding as it is ILLEGAL for any government body to put the council tax banding UP because to initial correct assessment was done on the property, giving the VOA or council to right to put the band up.

    Q.But i live in a council house and/or live alone/ claim disability?
    A. receiving a 25% single occupancy does not affect claiming back your rebate. you have still paid an amount over the past X amount of years.

Knowing WHAT to say to the VOA is where you CAN do this for free. Your claim can be automatically rejected if you ask too many questions. (explain that one VOA?) the VOA also expect you to have solicitor fee's at the ready, surveyors reports, and historical analysis run on your property in hand when you come knocking asking questions.

There is no point moaning about companies such as these, having to pay £165 is a better chance than having your challenge declined and knowing that you can never ask questions again. DO YOUR HOMEWORK!
