British Laws
Distant Selling Regulations
Covers consumers rights
Data Protection Act
Ensures sensitive data is handled correctly
EU regulations
EU E-Commerce Directive 2002
Apply to business that “sell goods or services to businesses or consumers on the Internet, or by email or SMS throughout Europe” [1]
Forces businesses to supply consumers with contact details and clearly show the price of the service/goods
just a quick and dirty copy and paste from a presentation i did a few months back on some laws relevent to british e-commerce (sorry about bad formatting). I didnt lookup contract law so im unsure if it's relevent to electronic transactions?Neil, if you ever read this, you are a great big plonk.0 -
So what exactly are people going to do about this?
Is anyone willing to take Apple on?
If they are unlikely to turn up to a small claims court hearing then surely the court will make an award against them?
Is Martin interested in taking them on in the cause of consumer rights?
Lots of questions but how do we get them answered?0 -
Has anyone who had money deducted from their accounts had it returned yet?
Or has anyone recieved an email from Apple either confirming the order or telling you its been cancelled?0 -

Great news I just received my Iomega drive it's fantastic, it was shipped with my Dyno address labeller and arrived by City Link and they never took any money from my account
I plugged it in and it all worked well then suddenly there was this almighty noise, a kind of ringing, like my alarm clock going off. Oh no it was my alarm clock going off and I woke up to a life with out a mispriced HDD. Oh well off to work to earn enough to buy a pull priced drive - grim reality of life strikes again.
Maybe some of the ranters on here should just take a step back and read what they are writing, get over it life is too short!0 -
I didn’t bother making my own copies of the order pages, as I imagined all that would happen would be an apologetic email and the order cancelled. I could never have imagined they would appear to have deliberately falsified their records.
<snip>
Would you buy from a company that either falsifies their records over a trivial matter where there is no need to do so or is so incompetent that they can’t keep their records straight? I suppose this shouldn’t come as such of a shock. Apple is well known for showing contempt towards its customers, when a problem arises.
While it is annoying and unusual behaviour, I suspect that there is a more "above board" explanation for the order details changing than "falsifying records" (they advised buyers to print out your order at the point at which you make it in the first place, so that would have potentially achieved very little) - I'd guess that somebody immediately acted to prevent the orders being fulfilled by removing the offending item from their catalogue, then found that their database would not allow them to cancel an order for a non-existent item, at which point they started switching them for the label printers. Not good practice but a kludge to get around a mess on their systems rather than a devious plan to rewrite history (all IMO,).
Probably more panic than contempt - I wonder how many orders this spiked up to...Wins so far this year: It's been a quiet year so far0 -
I have just phoned them. I have just had a lengthy chat with a supervisor who has basically said this:
1. There was a mispricing error, and as such Apple reserve the right to cancel or ammend orders to this effect,
2. The reason the order was changed is due to how the system "works" and how it handles refunds,
3. Everyone who paid with a debit card will recieve a refund, and those who paid on a Credit Card will not have the money taken out,
4. They are very sorry and can only apologise,
I have a managers email address to forward on my complaint and if you would like me to add anything just ask

I've just checked and my order has been converted to 2 x labellers and cancelled... do you think they've changed it to try and remove evidence of the hard drive being ordered at that price? Perhaps because they know they've not got a leg to stand on?
I took screen shots of every page.
I never expected to get the drive but if you are not in you can't win. We have been through this all before saying they took the money and it's a contract but we never did get the goods so move on to the next misprice and hope it works next time.
I do think Apple have not been very professional in how they have dealt with this I have had no Emails at all and they have changed my order details the same as others here. No phone call or comunication in any way, that's the bit that I am upset about.0 -
