Agreed you can’t go wrong with London property it’s a veritable goldmine. Prices are going to keep on rising exponentially for the next 10 years at100% per year and in a few years even a studio flat on a council estate in Newhamwill be worth a million quid. I bought my London flat in August and since thenit’s value has increased tenfold, in fact it added 20k just over the weekend. What goes up can’t come down that’s the firstlaw of physic innit. Plus with George deciding to dish out more taxpayers moneyfor more of you naive clowns to buy shoeboxes in London at £500,000 a pop what could gowrong.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Why will you need to downsize?
There's no shame in renting, I don't understand why there is such a stigma attached to it. Renting works fine as long as a decent T ends up with a decent LL, it does happen.
Going back a generation or so, not everybody owned their own home.
yes but as a renter you have next to zero rights and can be given a S21 if you complain about anything....also most landlords do it on a shoestring to maximise profits so any repairs will be on the cheap...
added to that the constant cost of moving every 12 months when they decide to sell and i would rather own a property everytime. until they get tenancies like france it will always be crap.0 -

you can keep your equity, your pollution, your tiny boxes that you call homes and your unfriendly computing experiences. It's not all about money
yes, but you get crap public transport, feeble wages with zero career progression and restaurants/everything else makes butlins look trendy....my flat is 1000 sq ft with two bedrooms, separate kitchen, large lounge, on-suite and regular bathroom and includes off street parking and a garage....so not a bad size for London but I admit many are 600 sq ft and not so good....
also how much have prices gone up in the north 1%? i heard in the north east they even fell...
am from the north east and would never go back, its permanently in a recession and has no future.0 -

yes, i forgot about that 2nd captial birmingham, in my opinion thats the best advertisement for the use of nuclear weapons there is. Have lived there for a year and the place sucks...and salaries in the midlands not much better than the north so why bother!0 -

Tenants do have rights it just that not everyone realises what rights they do have. Even those who do know their rights don't always exercise them (myself included) because it usually means that someone is messing around with your home which is stressful.
I live in Scotland where tenants seem to have it slightly better in that LA can't charge all those ridiculous "admin" fees, and LL and LA have to register with the local council and be deemed "fit and proper".
I have moved 4 times in 2 years though and it does start to grate. My current LL/LA have so far been very good in terms of repairs and just leaving me alone so I'm probably looking a lot more favourably on renting at the moment.
I do agree that there needs to be major reforms in the letting business. 6 months is not long term by any stretch of the imagination and the no fault section 21 is a joke. I think we have my ol' friend Maggie to thank for that one.0 -
Agree it's not entirely true to say tenants have "no rights" but it is true to say that anyone renting in this country is only ever 2 months away from being booted out of their home.
That's no way to live really.0 -

while I agree the deposit system overhall was a good thing and stopped tenants being ripped off in that respect, in reality what rights do tenants really have? because if there is a fault with the property and the landlord does not want to spend money fixing it they can just say either leave or put up with it.....also as said if the landlord decides to sell an S21 can be served and although you could hang on an go to court you will eventually be evicted.
sure you could sign a fixed AST but then you are stuck there if there are any problems and no real redress to get them resolved.0 -

Depends where in the north easy. Where I'm buying house prices rose 8% last year.
You aren't going to the right restaurants, I've never had a problem getting work.
I'll give you public transport, I do miss the price of London transport. I don't miss a 25 minute journey taking 2 hours because of signal failure of not being able to go to work because there was a tube strike, it snowed or a leaf fell on the line.0 -
Wasn't Skipton just voted the best place in the UK to live?0
