Would it make a difference if I didn't buy it at there main shop? I bought it (paid deposit) on there stand at the Ideal home in London?
    No. Only distance selling/buying would:
The Distance Selling Regulations (DSRs) are the rules that
apply if you are selling products or services to consumers
without face-to-face contact, and where the consumer has
not had an opportunity to examine the goods before buying
or discuss the service in person. Examples of distance
selling include selling via: the internet, text message, phone
call, fax and interactive TV or mail order.

Under DSR you would have had 7 working days to cancel.

    Was it a credit sale?
I think this wouldn't make any difference as the OP wants to cancel the order, not the credit agreement for paying for the sofa (if it was a credit agreement).

    What's your point?
Is it that everything that companies or their sales people tell us is true and cannot be doubted?
  • How would you feel if the company decided after a few hours they didn't want to sell to you and cancelled the order?

£1000 seems a lot for a deposit though. How much was the sofa?

They do this all the time. A typical clause from a random order confirmation:
This e-mail is only an Acknowledgement of receipt of your order. Our contract to supply these items is not complete until we notify you, that the above items have been dispatched.

In that case you have a cooling-off period, unless the item was personalised or made to order. You may have to pay any costs incurred already, but if you act quick, you should get back most of your deposit.

£1000 deposit ...omg:eek:. How much exactly was this sofa?!!
Sadly it seems you are going to be stuck with an expensive piece of furniture that you won't enjoy using or owning unless you can do some major grovelling to the furniture shop / sofa suppliers.

Alternately, you could always ask for a credt note and choose anotther sofa that you do like?

    Good Luck.
