And how long was the period between purchase and you contacting them about this?
A slightly different slant on the question then, given your answer:
How long after you made the purchase did you open the box and discover the dirt? If that wasn't 3 weeks why did you then wait so long to complain?0 -

Think that would be too simple.0 -
Can you upload a picture to show the problem, or is it too late now?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

A few hours after I got home I opened it up, I left it a while to return because I was in the process of moving house.0 -
I think you'll have a tough time proving that it didn't get so covered in dirt whilst in your possession, given the time periods involved. You positive that it couldn't have happened during the house move?0

Like I do.
It's naive to always take a poster at face value, if we did that we'd never get rid of spam and we'd all be buying custom made kitchens.
In this case while the word 'incredible' may be a bit strong the OP's actions (or inaction) have not helped his chances of getting a satisfactory conclusion to his complaint.0 -
You opened it that day, then waited 3 weeks to complain.
No chance I'm afraid. Just give it a clean. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -

I wouldn't want to clean it. Could have all sorts in the mud.
Don't these electricals have a 12 month guarantee. Does that mean you have 11 months and 30-31 days to open it.
I don't know!0
