Showing receipt

Makro is not a private members type establishment in any way shape or form.
Well, the stores are not open to the general public and the only way to make a purchase there is to be a Makro card holder or to be the guest of a card holder.
If this isn't indicitive of it being a members only establishment, what is it?0 -
A security guard has no more power/authority to detain you/lay hands on you/ask to see your receipt than I or any other random stranger.
However, stores have (supposedly - according to some threads on here) banned people who refused to cooperate with security.
I know some people get on their high horse and go on about how its the principle of the thing or about how embarrassed they were but really, its a simple request that can clear up any confusion and (imo) would be unreasonable to refuse. You keep using that word. IMO, a lot would depend on how I was approached and what the person asking to see the receipt actually said and how they said it.
If it was a polite request then I wouldn't have any objection to showing the required receipt, but if it was asked for in such a way as to be an accusation or an attempt to intimidate, that would get an entirely different response from me.0 -
Don't be silly, how do you think they catch shop lifters "please sir can you stand there while I go and get the police to arrest you" no of course not, they will use reasonable force as allowed by law.unholyangel wrote: »A security guard has no more power/authority to detain you/lay hands on you/ask to see your receipt than I or any other random stranger.
The same way they can detain you for not showing a receipt, because they have grounds to suspect you or they wouldn't be asking for it in the first place. If they get it wrong then they have to deal with the consequences but that is a civil matter.0 -

Their grounds would have to be very good, in most cases they would need to have witnessed a person select something, conceal it and then leave the store (showing the intent to permanently deprive the store of ownership and no attempt to pay) otherwise they would be on quite sticky ground.0 -

I didnt say they don't use force. I just said they have no more authority than me or you to stop and search or detain people - which is true. Are you suggesting otherwise? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

They have no powers to detain or search, as I said before, the only people who do are police and certain other law enforcement officers.0 -

They can "detain" you until the police show up. However thats not what I said.
Please try reading what is actually written (not a specific dig at you BBQ, just tedious having to repeat the same thing over and over)You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
