    I've been Money Tipped!
Hand steam cleaner + microfibre cloth and w up lliquid, long handled brush for ceilings, flat mop and microfibre disposable for walls. Wash and polish all ornaments and stuff on dresser regularly. Use vac daily with dusting attachment (Miele cat and dog). Convinced that steam keeps dust mites down, and also Miele.

Hoover mainly. The ornaments get put in the dishwasher sometimes! I also use the floor damp cleaner with an old cloth damped down and I clean walls with it as its extendable. I also use it dry on the walls in the bathroom if its getting too damp after 3/4 showers in the morning....
Damp cloth on surfaces but I also have different thingies to clean radiators/blinds and stuff like that.
Only ever bought when cheap mind!
  • If you leave everything in exactly the same place and never move it, no-one sees the dust! ;-)

  • I'm amazed that this one hasn't been mentioned yet...

Using tumble dryer sheets is a great way to clear everything of dust and because of the stuff in them it means that they sort of 'repel' dust so that you don't have to do it as often. Great for electronic things that love to attract the dust.

I just by the cheap ones in the pound shop or value ones in normal supermarkets.

I don't have any specialised stuff for dusting. I usually use an old sock or rag.

How often do people dust? Do you dust everything all in one go or just as needed? Dusting is not really part of my cleaning "routine" (i.e. if a routine existed in my house), so I only really do it maybe twice a month :o

I have switched recently to using a damp cloth with a little bit of fabric conditioner on it, rather than a baby wipe or a cloth just dampened with water. not only does the fabric conditioner smell nice, it really does repel the dust from the tv and the tv cabinet. I am converted.

I did a city and guilds course for hotel keeping. We were taught never to use the spray polishes as most of them contain silicone which builds up over time. Furniture should be polished with a good quality wax polish a couple of times a year. Everyday cleaning a damp cloth and then polish off with a dry cloth. Glass cleaned with vinegar, yes it smells for a few minutes but the smell soon disappears.

For general cleaning I use a mixture of stardrops, bleach and water. Vinegar for removing limescale on taps and in kettles. I also use an old toothbrush to clean the corners of windows round taps etc. A quick tip, if you have a stainless steel hob, clean in the usual way and then put a tiny drop of veg or olive oil on a paper kitchen towel and go over the hob with it. works on stainless steel kettles and toasters too.

I use baby wipes as I'm a little lazy with cleaning, I like it clean but spend as little time as possible. One wipe tends to do one room and I have loads knocking around with the little one.

Saying I'm lazy I do work constantly, have three children, the husband. Always have people turning up unexpectly, do various charity fund raisers, try to take children out on days off to escape being called down constantly so not much time left so don't particularly want to be cleaning too much. Quick half hour everyday to fit everything.

Horses for courses. I use different dusters for different jobs, but don't use them all on the same day. Yesterday I swung a feather duster round most of the house, so I did ceilings, corners, shelves with ornaments, pictures etc. In a couple of days, maybe next week, I'll go round with an e-cloth, rubbing the door handles, doing the mirrors & switch plates, screens etc. maybe do a few ornaments that need that kind of dusting. That way it all gets done over a couple of weeks, without too much faff.
