I'd not seen it before. Definitely worth watching. If you've not read the books, I believe miichaels should have a set you can borrow :)

I'd watched Ghana v Germany and couldn't be bothered to watch the last match of the evening. Then I remembered there is often a film on Ch4 at 9. Bingo!

My house is quite retro, but not that retro GDB :p

I own 3 videos - Star Wars episodes IV-VI (now have them on dvd too). I guess the stash of videos from childhood would be mine if I wanted them too. There are only a couple I'd particularly want. A Sooty video - because we watched those two episodes so much my brother and I still have some 'catchphrases' from them. And one called 'The Tale of the Bunny Picnic' which was the last thing made by Jim Henson.

I've got 2 tvs, both have integrated dvd players. The one in the lounge is an ugly cheapo one I'm borrowing from my brother. As and when I find an unbeatable offer on a nice one it'll be replaced. The one in my bedroom was also a cheapo one but isn't quite as ugly. It also has a USB port so you *can* record things. I generally forget about that ability, and tbh I bet I wouldn't end up watching any of it anyway...

The reason I asked about the video recorder is that you said you were falling asleep watching hunger games. Why not video it and go to sleep? I video anything I want to watch on commercial TV so I can skip past the adverts.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I often don't mind the adverts... They're a chance to go to the loo/ make a drink/ move upstairs etc.

    The short answer was:
    i) an attempt at a joke as you said video :) I would say the same, but it shows our age :)
ii) Whilst I have the facilities to record (onto a USB stick), I'd most likely never get round to watching it. I should be able to make it to 1 am on a Sat night anyway! Granted I should probably be doing something a little more exiting than watching TV on my own, but still :)

Had a go on The Lizard. I'm just about ok in a straight line... Need to practise corners. Pretty sure this garden is slightly bigger than the one I grew up in.

    :)

I like to do stuff in breaks. Besides loo/ drinks / putting dogs out etc, you can often get a room tidied very quickly in a break. Then dusted. Then a window cleaned....and so on. :o. Very Short bursts of rushed activity.

So, michaels would be proud of me. I just used my Mr T voucher and a till spit!

Last time I went to Mr T I got a "£3 off when you spend £20" voucher - I usually ignore those as I don't spend £20. Then, in the week, I received the voucher - £1.50 is all I got ....

I checked the £3 off voucher before chucking it away and it runs out today, so I searched out the £1.50 voucher and looked up Pepsi on mysupermarket ... only to discover that Mr T has it cheapest right now (if you buy 24 cans for £6).

Well, hell yeah. So I figured I'd buy 4x24 cans, costing £24 - and use the £3+£1.50 to part-pay. So I'm now the proud owner of 96x 330ml cans of Pepsi for £19.50

Then, as it went through the till .... I got another soddin' "£3 off £20 spend" that's only valid for a week .... if I'd had my house I'd have offloaded the trolley to the car and gone round again to use it up ... then store them in the shed :)

Had another "bonus find"..... they had their "Indian meal for 2" cubed boxes at half price (£3.15), so that's today and tomorrow sorted for treat meals at £1.58 apiece!

Our local Mr T Express closes tonight for 10 days. I'm hoping for some mega yellow labels later :D

    Greetings from the garden!

I've been told I'm pessimistic more often that I'd like. I'm not really pessimistic, I'd describe myself as realistic. I believe in planning for the worst whilst hoping for the best. I'm just much less likely to be open about my hopes.

Anyhow, next time someone tells me I'm pessimistic, I'm going to show them this picture:
    output_zps0iqmjuz3.jpg
If that isn't optimistic, I don't know what is!

Thought I'd also share a pic of my infamous hanging baskets. They were starting to wilt yesterday as I'd neglected them for a couple of days (and it has been pretty scorchio around here). Not the most carefully manicured things, but they make me smile :)

And finally (for now)... I'm trying not to get over-excited, but it's difficult:

    :D

    They look absolutely fab!

Very impressed by the first piccies - how come your slugs haven't eaten all the plants (you can go off people, you know ;):p :rotfl: )?

I have a hanging basket a bit like yours; I've reused it successfully several years in a row. I always line it with a cut-up old compost bag turned inside out, so the black lining looks outwards. Just put a few holes in the bag for drainage purposes, and the rest helps to stop it drying out too much.

Courgette looks very healthy. They look like male flowers at the moment, but female ones will come along soon enough and then they'll get pollinated and you'll get actual courgettes.

I treated myself to a hard drive recorder about 18 months ago. I still have the VCR but it's relegated to the spare bedroom. The hard drive recorder is absolutely fab; it's the automatic indexing so you can easily choose and then locate a programme to watch, and then don't have to over-write with something exactly the same length as the programme to be over-written.

Thinking of you with your final sessions this week, Gen. The end is in sight, even though the effects are getting more severe for you at the moment.

There are plenty of slugs and snails in the rest of the garden. That corner gets most of the sun... perhaps they don't like it? I'm sure they'll find that corner sooner or later. For now, I have a very overcrowded set of veg plants :)

My hanging baskets have liners sewn in. I made some drainage holes before planting them up. Assuming they manage to not get stolen, I'm hoping to use them again next year.

It's worse for mum (his sister) as she's too ill to travel. It's just sinking in I think that she won't see him again:(.

Sorry to hear this Viva. Is there another way of mitigating this? Can they use Skype? It is not the physical contact but 'seeing' is achieved.

I've used Skype before for my mum to see her brother. I fixed it up with my cousin. Neither of them liked it very much and it wasn't natural for them. I spent most of my time talking to my cousin while they twiddled their thumbs and looked awkward.

Mum's only had a tablet for about a year and my uncle doesn't have any IT at all. It's all a bit alien. But they speak by phone every day when he's not in hospital as mum has the talktalk international free calling plan which is fantastic under the circumstances.
