...how do you reach the front door?!

I thought photo was taken from inside/a window.... and access is up the side (the other side of that low wooden fence).

Not all front doors are .... at the front :)

I bet the neighbours are moaning about the "building work next door ... on a Sunday too .... and a good/sunny one..."

This is the reason why you've complained that your house is always full of mud despite your best efforts??

Spirit, it's more than a tradition for Orthodox Jews. It's a fundamental part of the religion. A commandment, if you like. An Orthodox Jew would no more willingly agree to murder or adultery than he would to not circumcising his son.

Banning circumcision, for whatever good motives, would be equivalent in religious terms to say banning confession or holy communion. Any committed Christians faced with such a ban would simply move abroad or continue to practise their religion clandestinely. I am not saying that circumcision should not be banned, but the repercussions should be understood.

Curiously enough, none of our four sons has ever reproached us for that. We get reproached for lots of things, but not that!

How do you think the Orthodox Jewish community would react if a law were passed saying, for example, that it could only be done by a doctor and with an anaesthetic?

My dad (who was done himself but chose not to have his sons done) never said much about it that I heard, except once when he compared circumcising human boys to docking dogs' tails or cropping their ears. I believe the law on docking tails was changed from "any adult as long as the puppy is less than x days old" to "only qualified vets and with anaesthetic" several years ago, as a means of promoting animal welfare without actually banning the practice.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

A few posters here have mentioned the 5:2 diet. Can anyone share any successes/fails/points/tips observations with me as I'm looking into it and this may be the time to start.
Please pm me or contact me directly if you know how. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

The majority of mohels are doctors, I think. There would be no religious problem about making that a requirement. Our boys were done by a doctor.

I don't think there is any religious reason why anaesthesia is not used, but I am not qualified to answer that.

Clearly, general anaesthesia carries a risk, but a little local cream to numb the area should be medically acceptable, but again I can't answer that definitively.

Edit. A quick look at the list shows that rather less than half are medics.

Have Amazon lost the plot? Ordering locker delivery as under £10 and this used to be free gives me 3 options:
    1) Prime trial for free
    2) FREE standard delivery
    3) 1.99 next day delivery

Standard delivery is fine so click this and delivery price is £3.93?!

Apparently there is no longer free locker delivery for under £10 but the website options haven't been updated to reflect this. Why express delivery is cheaper than standard seems to be because the express price has not yet been adjusted to reflect that standard is no longer free.

It also means that for less than £10 Amazon are no longer cheaper than local walk in to the shop and get it now shops in many cases.....
    I think....

Has anyone else noticed that someone is busy bumping Marisco threads? I have counted 16 so far today. Any ideas why this could be happening?

Marisco is a woman who evidently had a near miss accident last year, and was considering redecorating her childs bedroom. They are starting to drop off the list, but go back just today and you will see them.

    No worries, just wondered.

    checked again.

I haven't consciously done it, but often eat less on the two days a week that I'm less active and have lost weight as a result (though nowhere near Tom's league).

There are lots of 5:2 diet variants on the market, in my library alone we stock books on about 5 different versions, so if you're taking one up, make sure you know the finer details.
