Depends on how well they know each other. If they go to festivals together, they they will enjoy the communal get together of the big tent.

If they don't, they may wish for somewhere private to escape once they feel they have socialised enough for the evening.

See, I was just thinking, men + beer in excess = copious amounts of snoring and farting. I wouldn't really want to share a thin walled tent. I', sociable, but not that sociable.

    Here is certainly £25 ph.

    And lanscapers. Ouch, ouch ouch.
We made an enquiry to three landscapers for our small north garden. Ouch.

We pay ours the equivalent of about £15 per hour. (£120 a month for about 1 hours work for generally 2 people, sometimes they send 3 or 4 and blitz, occasionally just 1) all legit with a contract and paid via standing order.
Anyone know if its possible to hire caravans for a day at your own house?

We have some friends come ing to stay and er, more people are coming than we have sofas for. Some have tents.....others....don't.

I would be the one arriving without a tent, just to make sure I wasn't stuck with outdoor living.

    B&Bs, airbandb.com, friendly neighbours?

travelodge/ premier inn? sleeping bags on the floor? You can get blow up matresses from Tesco for about £8.

However, not safe for women past 1st trimester of pregnancy and under 18s.

I saw a program that featured him last week. That is the only thing he does. Someone introduces him, he comes out and stares for ten minutes then goes off again. Riveting.

Neighbours are out because of timing of end.

Blow up mattresses in different reception rooms are a great idea though!

Because of location anything else really will be out. They want to be here and relaxed on time, its just how to do that best.:)

I was going to suggest these smoothhound and aribnb ... but before I did I had a quick look as LIR's too remote for anybody to have any offering whatsoever.

Nearest B&B I found was 6-7 miles away.

There is B and B much closer, in all the surrounding villages, but just would be wrong to turn up in the state they'll be in and also.....I an to be in bed asleep long before they need driving anywhere. ;). They will NOT be driving anywhere, Taxis would be the bigger issue really,

Good people of the NPT thread, I'd like some advice please.

I don't use my garden very often and it has a tendency to overgrow. DH doesn't sit out there because he gets terrible hayfever and has ended up in hospital. I don't sit out there. It is just there and unused.

Presently we have a lawn and two patios. We're looking to replace the lawn (which in reality is very weedy so more of a meadow) and are scoping out options. I have a friend who is a garden designer and will mock up some ideas for me once I know what I want. I have three ideas on the table currently:

    1. Replace the main turf area with astroturf and add flower beds round the side to be planted with low maintenance plants.
    2. Similar to 1, but using a gravel or slate base instead.
    3. Have a non-grassed garden, but with a series of flower beds and paths. This will require more maintenance than 1 or 2, but planting will be carefully selected.

Main garden area is about 25' by 18' with the patios either end, so not massive. I can't easily leave it as it is as it is hard for me to maintain.

    Constraints:
I currently have a lot of birds, butterflies and bees visiting the garden and retaining these, in particular the song birds is important.
There are cats in the neighbourhood who quite like pooing in my garden, so I'd like to add plants that cats don't like. I may also look at putting a fine net over the astroturf or gravel/paths to stop cats using the garden.

What would you do if you were me? What plants would you use? How would you lay out the garden? I don't have a huge budget, it is more to get it low maintenance without impacting on the wildlife or having to clean up cat poo.
I'd go with 3 to be honest Viva, & select your plants carefully. That way you can discourage cats, & encourage insects & birds.
Plus, would be easier to clean/maintain, as well as sit in & enjoy.

My dad was mad about cutting his lawn - always doing it. In his latter days he couldn't physically manage it, but was still trying and as soon as I heard the mower coming out I'd rush out and take over..... only to be criticised for being rubbish, doing it wrong, as he sat on a chair and was pointing out bits I missed. The lawnmower was awkward/unwieldy and he wanted me to not only do it in stripes, but to also start/finish at the same point he did. Now ... a stripey lawn, in an advert, can look nice for the photo - but the reality of a stripe-cut lawn that's 30'x12' is that you don't see/notice at all and it makes no difference whatsoever how you cut it!

I never bother with stripes, and I have a big lawn where it would show up. Too much effort.

    I started with 360

Think I'm probably down to around 330 now. This month's installment means 1/3 of it is properly mine :)

I'll still need to pay for living after that though. I like sleeping a lot more than I like getting up :o
I rang the mortgage company this morning. Mortgage set up, as are the repayments.

    I have 180.

I was asking about overpaying. As long as I pay 3x or more than the monthly instalment, it can be classed as a capital repayment, & I can choose whether to reduce the term of the mortgage, or retain the term but reduce the monthly payment.

I plan to make a big payment this month, reduce the monthly term, then over the next 12 months make a series of overpayments reducing the term....

Today RP had graciously explained to me how to clean the oven.

My ability to nod and smile is worn to absolute fraying point. Having demonstrated and chastised my ability ( rightfully actually, the thing is fetid ATM) oven is still filthy but RP feels smug.

I could clean the oven. ( RP feels cleaning oven begins and ends with hob) but really need to do bottom oven and get in there throroughly which is a 'low head' job. So it waits till I can do it properly.

Ok, vented, I am going to go and paint a fence panel.

It's easy. My steps for cleaning an oven:

    1. Call a professional oven cleaning company (use google if you don't already have number in phone)
    2. Make tea or coffee as necessary
    3. Write cheque.

These steps are only used when there is a risk of imminent chip pan fire in bottom of oven.

I'd have asked them to show me by doing the whole thing, start to finish...

About 15 minutes of getting strapped in. It's hard to say how long the actual zapping takes. I was told 15-20 minutes but it doesn't seem to be anything like that.

In fact I think I'll bring that up at tomorrow's zapping sesh. I don't want to have to go through all this rubbish again. Ever.

Interesting. My friend also called each sesh a zapping...
