I can see that's a valid point, but the MSE in me says that if I minimise the overlap time then I've got the potential to "gain" by £200-300, which would pay for a sofa :) ... possibly even a fridge/freezer too. Or a table/chairs.... or a telly ... or that new PC I want .... or 1001 things.

    I'll do some sums.....

Could you sublet to a cannabis farmer? Could be lucrative.

Oh, and check on the council tax rules. When I moved, I had an overlap of a few weeks - I needed plenty of time to get the rented place as perfect as possible to maximise reclaiming my deposit, and that's not quick when you've got a job and some kids. But I only had to pay council tax on whichever property I was living in. I'm not sure if they've changed the rules since then, though, so check.

Also, I didn't use any water (metered), gas or electricity in the rented place once I'd moved out - apart from what I used while cleaning it, of course - so the bills were less than if I'd been living there.

Sums can get very complicated, can't they? Good luck with yours.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

In the time available I could stick it on airbnb.com and rent it out by the day to holidaymakers :)

Legally speaking, that's legal because the worst that happens is ... they can't touch me :)

I could probably ask £40-50/night for it ....

That's the thing, the column headings become more: What, If, Maybe.... and then there's other stuff.... like I might want to go away, so being at A or B might be preferable. Or I might want to join a club, or something, that makes being at one or the other (aka settled) more sensible.....

Without dates...... all items are balls in the air to be tossed and tossed until you have some targets.

That's one of my "Included" parts.

Not my bill, not my name.

    Sorted!

You should start a new website: subletting-to-dodgy-druggies.com. I can help you with the multi-billion dollar share floatation.

I've checked back to find out what my dates were:
Exchanged 13 Jan and gave notice soon after
Completed 28 Jan and started having building/plumbing work done
    Final rent payment 4 Feb
    Moved in 22 Feb
End of rent month 3 March

In the olden days one would simply give one month's notice and leave... none of this "rent dates" nonsense. I wonder how much housing is "stuck empty" with people paying money they can't afford for the overlap between rental/rental or rental/buying.

I bet it's a horrendous waste of housing stock ....

My seller will be renting .... so will also be eyeing up that balance between losing the rental and an overlap.... but they are "profiting" over £30k from what they bought it for, so not strapped after costs.

I have to go out later as I failed at shopping yesterday. I was so focussed on the new chair purchase and acquisition that I didn't pay proper attention to my list... and I managed to do M's, T's and Lidl .... and get nearly home and thought "damn, milk".... then I toasted one of my newly acquired muffins and thought "damn, margarine".... and this morning I scraped out the final/tiny scraps of marg from the tub for my crumpets for breakfast.....
