Don't quote, will delete...
I spent today in some legal offices, and have done a deal to settle my family's claim for compensation for LNE's death - although not for my kids' claims for their injuries, both physical and psychological. Needs to be given the OK by a judge next month, at which point I'll find out how much of it is going to come direct to me now and how much is going to be tied up for DS and DD when they grow up. I am happy with the amount, and v glad to have a bit of progress and certainty.

On the way home, I had a little more time than expected, so when I was going past Cribbs Causeway I dropped in to see if I could get some new shoes for work for the summer because my existing ones are falling apart. Really shocked to see how many of the units were empty and boarded up. It never used to be like that.Didn't find any shoes I liked either.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I suspect many A&E departments are over run with alcohol related cases and social problem people on Friday nights.
A year or two ago, DS had an injury to his hand that required an X-ray. It happened on a Friday night. I gave him pain killers and made him wait until the morning. 8am on Saturday morning is a wonderful time to go to A&E. Reception, triage nurse, X-ray, doctor and out again in less than half an hour.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I've spent to much on inexpensive shoes in the past, maybe they are missing my custom?0 -
Not sure if you are being ironic in a "yeah emergency patients in accident and emergency" kind of way.
Sorry about your wife's hand.
Is it quite a small A&E or do they have a majors and minors? Serious car accidents/major trauma go via majors and hands probably triaged to minors.

No, just being matter-of-fact about it. DW's hand was important to her, and she was in pain, but the road casualty people were clearly in much worse shape. I suspect we chose our evening for our A and E visit quite badly.
Booze and cars and inexperienced drivers are a bad combination. Actually any permutations of these is a bad combination
I don't know how it compares with other hospitals TBH, which is odd as I worked in one. We're probably closer to St Helier now which is, or seems gigantic.

Oh, and apparently I'm very rare. My barrister had searched for previous cases of claims for compensation when somebody died in an accident that was somebody else's fault, while having got a decree nisi but not having got their decree absolute, and could only find one.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? I'll congratulate you and NDB again although with 2 boys you know that means you can't stop yet...

Masomania,
How did your CIPD meeting go today? What did you discuss?
Hi Spirit! Good thanksIt was interesting, in the end it was all very specific about the course. What do we like about it? What would we change? Usual sort of stuff. I thought it was going to get a lot more technical than all that about how topics are covered, what topics and so on.
So that was ok. It did me a lot of good to get out of the house. Went for a few pints with some people from my course as well. We don't do a lot as people live so far away from each other that we don't really socialise. So it was nice we were able to do that!
Had a chance meeting with the Slavic girl. It was pretty much fine, no awkwardness really. I decided just to be friendly and she was friendly back. It was nice to see her, if I'm honest. It's a very long time since I've met someone that I can talk to so easily and we do make each other laugh. But I will stop going on about her, it's not doing me any good.
