The stamp duty and so forth would definitely represent another large chunk of cash......
Was that one of the studio flats in the big 1930s blocks just off Russell Square?
That's a toughie. I'm really not a military man so it's probably not the best way to ask the question.
As asked, the ton against the Aussies. If it was between 100 and being on a team that won a Nobel Prize or got a KBE for doing something great to help my fellow man then it would most definitely be the latter.0 -

They all have. I thought you were moving straight in?
Even the old exemption of six months was probably up already, if it makes you feel better.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

There are loads of "campaign medals" that are given to "everybody who was there" for a particular place/time, regardless of what they did. Doozer's found out for us that his are the two Jubilee medals, given to everybody in the armed services at all provided they had 5 years' service at the time.
My Dad has his father's medals, and he got various ones like that - a Middle East one, and a couple for the Italy campaigns in 1943-4 as well.London has gotten crazy. I can understand that it's a student flat at the moment and is being sold on for proper money. A 4 bed place round there is always going to cost plenty.
But then, seriously? You don't have to take decent pictures or market the place in any sort of meaningful way except bung it up on the interwebs and someone will buy it regardless.
I think they'd have been better off just putting the floor plan, rather than some slightly out-of-focus shots of dirty clothes on sofas. She isn't money-orientated though! That puzzles me I think.
She recently had a lunch with the managing partner and some other colleagues from the firm she currently paralegals for (one of these informal staff engagement things). I asked her if she mentioned she had applied to do a training contract with them and was having an interview the next week, and she hadn't! 'Oh it didn't come up...' She's also had two quarterly reviews now where she hasn't mentioned that wants to be a solicitor. She's just in no way pushy or assertive, so I really can't see her doing corporate law, and it looks like the people who have been interviewing her can see that too.
I didn't mean to be rude and imply she was money-orientated! I just meant, it is both better-paid and more competitive than some areas of law are....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
There's a club, that runs relevant (compulsory) courses at half the price of other outlets. Website says "if fully booked, you can go here instead..." with a link to another provider that charges the "full price", same as anybody else.
Can't book onto the (cheaper) courses unless you are a full member. But, what if you become a full member, then find out the courses are fully booked?
There's no one club I've a desire to join .... there are two:
1] 4 miles away, does the courses cheaper
2] 12 miles away, but the weekly meet is 1 mile away.
So, plan would have been to join [1], do the courses (£120 cheaper), then also join [2] and probably end up staying with [2] in future years.
Bit of a dilemma ..... the difference in course cost is the price of a 2nd hand boat that I'd need.
I guess I have to email them .... catch 22. Without the courses there's no point joining the club as you can't do anything; but you have to join the club before you know if there are spaces on the courses.0 -
Cannot you ask them what availability is like? If you book early if you are likely to get a place?
I just snapped at RP who seems to wait for the phone to ring and me to be talking to come and try to talk to me. My ears are bad this week and hearing Has been hard so have missed phone a lot, so need to concentrate on calls.
Grrrrr.
Also, there was a mouse eating the cake I made at the weekend. Well, I said, that's what happens if you don't wrap up food. I don't care, I don't eat cake..

That's not the response they expected... you were supposed to apologise and fix it by making another.0 -
