Thought I had ordered a replacement shower for the rental house but just discovered there was another checkout screen (4th?) that has now timed outI think....0

It's difficult to measure - where would I actually have my money, at what rates (e.g. not maximised in the highest rate account, but put into various accounts and left....). Then there'd have been tax on that interest ..... so that's the "house cost".
As interest rates rise, my "house cost" will therefore increase.
House cost estimate now might look close to £300-350/month.
Yes, but what will the rent do in the future?
The important number is "net house cost" which is your "house cost" minus the rent that you are currently paying and won't have to pay any more.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Yes, since I calculated the figures I've looked up some actual figures and recalculated it at £480/month.
Rent is £610, including some bills, which makes it harder to be absolute.
Calculating all, on balance, I can at least say that I'll be getting double the space for my money....... and never a S21 or other.

From what you've said in the past about what makes you miserable, I can think of something else too. Although it doesn't have a cost, the fact that a 'landlord' won't be able to drop by at a time of their choosing will be a major benefit too.
It will be yours Pastures. You can drill holes wherever you want, you can paint it whatever colour takes your fancy and you can get the boiler serviced when it suits your requirements. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Yes.... I can sit in my pants, with chip papers littered around .... and nobody will ever know. Finally I'll be free from housework0 -
I forgot - Bildeberg policing, not too worried if it put Herts on the map for more inward investment.I think....0

I last had roast lamb well over 30-40 years ago; I love lamb.
OH often buys minted lamb fillet from the butcher in Abersoch. It's theoretically for barbie-ing, but roasts really nicely and is just the right amount for the 2 of us... Well, OH would eat a whole one, but seeing as that's too much for me to manage we share. Which reminds me, must split the mint so we can take a pot with us next time we go to the caravan. Mmmm mint sauce!0 -

I won't be doing a 600 mile round trip to buy lamb
I remember, when we were growing up, that on a few occasions we had roast lamb instead of our usual Sunday chicken.
I don't know which bit it was, but it had a big/fat bone sticking out of one end and was sort of triangular/pyramid in shape .... difficult to remember as I wasn't taking notes.
I like the outside of meat - where it's well done.
A quick Google shows it was probably a leg.... but not as big as the 5Kg on in the photo I found! Probably half that size.0 -

You'll be the one getting the PMs now
And you'll be able to pop out for a ciggie without feeling you have to hide from the landlord.0
