There are also quite a few Aspies working in the library service, they are generally the ones who are really good at putting things in order.

And I bet most of them wish people'd keep the books in order ... maybe a vetting system. A test .... before being allowed in.

I remember Nikkster has posted about family who have moved to retail and happily stayed there

Yes, one customer-facing for nearly 25 years, the other not-so-customer facing (there aren't many customers around when the shop is shut overnight). For the 'other' it was a career change (struggled to get another job in their area of expertise as was getting on a bit), but they've now been in retail for probably 15 years.

As its not too far away, thought I'd mention that TK Maxx has a household stuff only shop on the retail park in Watford. May be worth a trip? Can meet up for a coffee and shopping if you like.

I think there is one the other side of here too, I told a friend about it but have never been myself :rotfl:
There is a possibility I'll be in the Watford area next weekend - I am a reserve cat sitter

Picked this up on Google news this morning - apparently those of us who are Hertfordshire taxpayers get to pick up a bill of £528k for policing the Bildeberg meeting in Watford last year after the Home Office refused to pay. Less than half of the cost was met by Bildeberg itself, we lucky Herts people get to pay the remainder:mad::mad::mad:.

Not happy. Not so unhappy that I'm going to start believing in the shape shifting lizards and stuff, but still not happy. It's not like this is a poor organisation, that couldn't afford to foot the whole bill. Nor is it as though it wasn't a major international event, not a local one.

What do the other Herts NP think? For that matter, what do the non Herts NP think?

When I move I'll be 1.4 miles from the library - it's in an old red brick building - Grade II listed, built in the early 19th century. It's open 45 hours/week (across 6 days), closed completely this whole weekend.

It had a revamp last year - I've not been in since they did that....

Am going to make several basic white loaves to get my eye in first. I think I spotted a flaw today: last time the bread was better although slightly burned.

    .

sometimes OH paints on salt water part way through baking to make a slight glaze. He also lightly burns it as that improves the flavour too.

he usually buys a large sack of flour form a mill however he has recently bought ready blended/flavoured flours which we are trying. the six seed one was good and saved pfaffing about, the mediterranean one he is doing for tonight, with a regular loaf on standby.

I think it's completely wrong..... but there are many things wrong.

Looking at it from one perspective, with a population of 1,119,800, that's just about 47p per person. For average wages that's probably a minute's work :P

Lots of things are charged regionally though - and unfairly. But things aren't easily changed. At least it's once every 15 years or so and not annually. South West Water customers pay annually to clean up the majority of the UK's coastline, even though they're only 3% of the population and on lower average wages.

You'd think they'd have used one of their toffs' private islands for such a meeting ....

This is where things cross over to "posh".... I thought people went into supermarkets and picked up "bread flour" in a bag :)

It is very frustrating. Last year a colleague of mine spent an hour and a half putting the children's books in order only to watch a parent allow their child to knock them all off the shelf and onto the floor without so much as an apology. They weren't even a toddler. You'd find a lot of staff support for a vetting system! I guess you do need to counter that though with the fact that there wouldn't be enough customers that passed the vetting for us to have a job - bit of a drawback that.

Food is never planned in my house. I buy food ... then I eat what I can be bothered to put together.

In my house, there is a 'Ready, Steady, Cook' style of menu planning - largely based on what I've managed to find cheap.

I am however strongly considering going out to specifically buy some lamb to roast on Sunday...

A butterflied lamb leg, studded with garlic and rosemary, BBQs amazingly and definitely brings out the inner caveman.

Gen, your bread looked great. I'm not surprised it didn't last for long.

I've just had a slightly-raised-voice conversation (and subsequently hung up) with a cold caller. They didn't want to sell me life insurance, but wanted to discuss my current policy. It was quite difficult to hear, but I think Shaun was trying to tell me I was paying too much. I told him that was unlikely and that I didn't want to discuss my financial set up with someone who had called me out of the blue and to please remove my number from his database. Shaun wasn't very happy about this and kept stressing he wasn't trying to sell me anything.

I don't have life insurance. I explained to Shaun why I don't (no dependents, death in service payment) and he didn't seem to believe me. He was still trying to tell me I was paying too much. I hope Shaun has a nice Bank Holiday weekend.
