I have just reminded myself why I WALK into town for a nosey round the shops (usually don't use the car at all over the weekend unless I'm going out of town).
Had a couple of lamps to pick up from M+S - was going to pick them up when I was in town this morning, but it quickly became apparent that I would need to return with the car:

(They will go in either the dining room or lounge)
Seeing as I'd taken the car into town, I decided to call back into Laura Ashley and buy the doorstop I'd been eyeing up but didn't want to pay full price for:

Whilst walking there I noticed an old school hardware shop (never usually walk down that bit of the high street during the day) and wanted to see if they sold non-hormonal rooting powder. They didn't but I saw a pretty spade and fork. Remembered I'd won a local shopping voucher in the library quiz I did a few weeks ago and thought it would be good to use it in a proper local shop, and on something that I'll hopefully get years of use out of. I'll take back the ones I bought yesterday (same brand but less pretty).
Again earlier, I'd noticed there seemed to be some good deals on fruit/ veg growing supplements. So I picked some of those, seeing as I had the car in town.
Again, seeing as I had the car out, thought I'd pop to Homebase to pick up some compost-type stuff (they had sent me a voucher for 15% off as a housewarming present). They didn't have the one that I'd seen on offer online, whilst Mr HomebaseMan was checking the warehouse I ended up straying into the drill aisle. I left Homebase with a variety of bags of compost/ split (and thus reduced) growbags. And a hammer drill. Will have to do some post-purchase research to see if I got a good deal on the drill otherwise it'll be going back.
It's a good job I don't have anyone here to answer to. I don't think I'd be able to use the 'this old thing? I've had it for ages' line :rotfl:
I feel like I've done my bit to boost the local economy for this month.0 -
I went to the theatre this afternoon on an impromptu visit to a slapstick comedy murder mystery, having seen good reviews on twitter.
It was absolutely hilarious. Most people were wiping tears away from their eyes from before the start. What a great afternoon :rotfl:0 -
I've no plans for lamps or doorstops ... and if I ever do need a lamp I'll be off down Argoose. It's a good job I don't have anyone here to answer to.
You've been on a right spending fest!!0 -

... ain't that the truth

Yes, but just think how much I've saved(I didn't even mention the plant pots and stakes I've also bought today...)
Good job payday is early this month because of Easter
I have a selection of revolting doorstops that I inherited with the house. I'm gradually replacing them when I see ones I like (the doors all gradually shut themselves, not proper fire doors though). I like to be able to prop a door open (all get shut at night, I can hear my mum telling me to do that).
And now I've got all that stuff out of the way I [STRIKE]should [/STRIKE] will be back to walking and therefore limited to what I can fit in a backpack.
I've quite enjoyed having a little spending spree0 -
I've written and submitted the assignment and my desire to watch the Lego Movie has shrunk accordingly. Have decided to give myself the evening off. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

You need one of those old git trolleys
Nah, I find having to carry stuff home in bags/ a backpack is a good way of making me think whether I really want something enough to carry it for over mile.
Plus - the theme I'm working to is 'student chic' not 'old git chic'
Plenty of time to be an old git, need to cling onto whatever youth I have left!PasturesNew wrote: »It is nice finding something that you had on your "need list" .... then hauling it home .... something more to waft around and admire
I have seen "what a posh person would get to fit my need" for kitchen seating - tastefully done it'd come in at about £3,500. Then I turned my thoughts to what I can afford and have set a budget of £50When it gets closer to the time I'll need to pop out every weekend, to every car boot sale, to see if what I need can be found.... obviously it could take a few months before I spot what I've got in mind.
I like acquiring things bit by bit - I couldn't go out and buy stuff to decorate an entire room all at once. I do seem to be attracted to bird-related things at the moment though. I've still not forgotten the bird doorknocker that was on the front door of a house that was linked to on here0 -
...bird ...
It landed on the fence and I thought it was a robin - certainly had a red front, but it was quite skinny ... then it whizzed down to the grass "humming bird style" ..... stayed there for about a second, then whizzed up to the fence again. As I looked at it, thinking "you're odd" I tried to see what it looked like and (I might have imagined it) it seemed as if the red breast was a different colour (blue?) at the edge/shoulder level.
Edit: Googled it, looks like it was a Linnet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Linnet - a male in breeding plumage

OH has just finished packing for Israel.
He's usually incredibly calm and collected, but this evening (pre-marathon) he's definitely fluttering a bit. Doesn't quite know where to put himself.
He's banned me from waiting for him at the finish - he doesn't know how long it will take him, and he doesn't think standing around waiting for ages at nearly 36 weeks gone is a good idea.
I think I might very well ignore the ban. Can't leave him to finish on his own, can I?PasturesNew wrote: »You just reminded me - I saw a "funny bird" earlier, meant to Google it.
Thought we were back to the Jo Brand discussion, for a moment!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
