It would never occur to me to steam half jacket spuds - how long does a medium one take?
I take two medium spuds and cut them in half, add the water to the steamer, then place the spuds white sides up and sprinkle some salt on. Nuke for 5 minutes at full power; flip them over; nuke for 5 minutes at full power; flip them over.

At this point the insides are nearly cooked, so that's the last flip else they'll fall apart, so the white sides are up for the final nuking, which takes 3-4 minutes.

The texture's closer to a real baked spud this way as they don't dry out.

I halve them just because it makes sense to me as they'll cook quicker, never tried to steam them whole.

I am compiling a specific list of questions for my solicitor to ask the homeowner in writing ... need to write that list this weekend.... it'll be stuff like:

    • Have you ever been burgled, or had any attempted burglaries
    • Has the garden or building surrounds ever had surface water flooding (as the garden slopes a little towards the house)
    • Have you ever had to seek professional advice/experts to investigate or pursue any building issues that might have resulted in an NHBC claim
    • Have any feral brats pee'd you off

Need to sort out the exact wording... if anybody can suggest housey irritations I could add to the list, I welcome them.

    ..

What are the nicest things about living in this location
What community activities go on around here

I think it is important to know what is good as well as what is bad.

The daughter of someone I know was exhibiting this year for the first time, so I dropped in. She works in watercolour and/or line drawings, and I now have a piece of original art!
Have a word with her - make sure she's not missing a trick. She must take a good photo of everything she makes; then she's got the option of printing prints or cards/whatever in the future..... making a nice piece and selling it once doesn't make sound business sense.....

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

You don't need to keep quiet. You also don't need to disclose anything you'd rather not. I am, as my previous paragraph should make clear, cool about being friends with people whose sexual preferences are different from mine, as long as they're cool with mine being what they are, which everyone always seems to be if reassured that I don't disapprove of them.

Oh I know that, nice people are very accepting and I think if any of us turned out to be anything ( other than something that involved harm to minors for example) we'd grin, maybe be a bit curious and try and be polite in that. I think if any one here surprised me in that all of us ( even if there are those who might not fell the same ) would be a bit clear about where we were.

The important thing I think is to be content, not frustrated, harmless ( and in that I include respectful of the normal sensitivity of others) in whatever choices we make.

Does this make me posh?! Apart from a lovely fabric landscape hanging made for me by my aunt for Christmas a few years ago, the most compliments I receive on pictures are two watercolour landscapes from Dunelm Mill!

Yes, buying nice pictures from Argos, Dunelm Mill, poster shops is common. Buying original pieces is posh.
    :)
I have an original watercolour I bought about 35 years ago from the school jumble sale. No idea why .... it's in a hideous handmade frame too. I think it was painted in the 1920s. Value now ... about £0.50.

I also was persuaded by my sibling to buy a 10x8 oil painting when we were on holiday in the late 1980s. It was a local artist that churned out hundreds of original oil paintings of the same local scenes. She bought one too, then she gave it to our parents as she didn't really like it (it's not quality) .... and so I've now ended up with two. He's dead now ..... value of each, on ebay, about £10.... we paid £10 apiece in the late 1980s.

I'm all right ... I had two crumpets for breakfast :)

I will be eating a little better once I get the house because I'll be getting a freezer and will have all my cooking stuff unpacked from boxes.... and I'll get some saucepans. Heck, you might even see me mention a vegetable that isn't a chip!

You have a garden...you can grow some

...'My Beautiful Laundrette' .... she, obviously thinking I had known what it was about, asked me whether I associated with one of the characters.
I'll have to wiki that now, see what it's about!

Did I miss a link to a website with tests?! We always love tests.

Lurkers - we sometimes get very useful posts from people and I wonder if they follow the thread or just happened to see the subject on the debate board and think they have something to contribute. I find it hard to imagine people following the thread and not contributing, surely it is much too dull?! Perhaps we really should commission Mewbie to write 'NP, the Novel'?!
    I think....

I think it is important to know what is good as well as what is bad.

Nicest things: it's a place where it's OK to grow old and be when you're old; it's flat so OK for walking/cycling; there are some annual things on that people rave about (food festival); there's water closeby (although not a sandy beach); there's a watersports club that does the thing I am interested in trying ..... and the High Street has a range of useful shops (Argos, charity shops). There are buses that go into the nearest big town. I guess you lot might be interested to know there's a Waitrose nearby and an M&S Food shop just 100 yards from the front door.

    :)

I don't know about community activities; as a lifestyle they do tend to be frequented by couples/families rather than singles.... so not really sure what an answer might look like. There's stuff that goes on though - and a really good street market one day a week.

The garage that deals with my car is 200 yards away.... and Asda will be coming next year (2 miles away). There's a station a mile away ... and a really good chippy. Indians aren't so great - and the chinese seem REALLY expensive these days so only tried one so far. To compare, I can get the indian of my choice for £7.50, but the chinese of my choice for £9!

It's all genteel ... up the road half a mile; house is a little further out than the posh slots.
