Haven't new houses been hard wired for some years now?

Maybe in the UK. I'd rather have a battery as well as a wire in a smoke detector, especially if I was a smoker.

When I used to smoke I awoke more than once with a burnt out cigarette in my hand or the ashtray. Many times that could have ended badly.

I also have animal print shoes some where. .

I had some beautiful snakeskin winter shoes for years that always got lots of admiration and were extremely comfortable. They are the only shoes I have ever worn a hole in the sole of. As the we thin soled, resoling was not an option.

Despite them being past their best it took a while for me to bin them

Smoking is NEVER done inside..... I crouch under an umbrella outside in mid winter. Then, it's disposed of VERY carefully too .... I had a pot outside my last house, right by the wooden/extension utility room door ... had a visitor one night that went out for a smoke, they tossed their fag end into the pot and the next day I could see evidence of charring on the door frame - their fag end had set fire to all the older fag ends....

I'm doubly, super careful with cigs etc.

Courgette (zucchini in the local parlance) is very nice sliced thinly and cooked in butter. Boiled/steamed it's pretty vile.

Aubergine (egg plant) needs salting for an hour or so before cooking to remove the bitter flavour for modern tastes.

The point of ratatouille is the herbs. The veggies are just a way of carrying the herb flavours to you.

Modern varieties don't need salting for the taste, but it does still impact on texture.

I don't like bitter ones that much, but otherwise I live them. I like them sauted/grilled/roasted. I will eat courgettes lightly steamed if for some reason I don't want to grill them.

    I also love raw courgette.

I love them both without herbs or heavy flavouring, just grilled, but they do both make beautiful vehicles for wonderful flavours.

Do we have any homosexual nice people?

I guess there's about 20 of us plus lurkers which probably put us put to close to the ton (I found out today Mrs Generali is a lurker and boy am I in trouble - love you sweetie).

Just wondering. On the scale I reckon I'm very hetero but I have had a little dabble once when drunk many years back.

Not me.... I've just not found a man with enough patience for my foibles ... then time passed and it's kind of unlikely now.

Courgette sliced with a spud peeler and 'cooked' in lemon juice with olive oil, salt and pepper is awesome, especially if they're fresh and young and just picked from the garden.

OH has just popped in for his gun.

He came second to last in the go karting. He did have someone in mind he wanted to beat and achieved that....a former navy captain in his 70's.:rotfl:

As a complete aside - the chap mentioned above has a "Richard Burton voice". Makes me think I want to go and listen to "Under milkwood" or the opening of "War of the worlds".

    You're so posh :)
The only time I've seen a gun I was staring up the barrel; there was an irate scrap dealer at the other end and we were in the middle of his road as I'd just gone down there to "sort him out"
    :)
It ended well for me.... not so for him. He ended up being arrested by the police and doing some time; I managed to escape down a side road and make a clean getaway (I was in the next road tooling up with some 4x2 from a skip)

    Hello again mrs gen.

Very heterosexual but curious? Is that what you are saying? Or taken advantage of?

I'm not gay, but I don't or didn't always identify as heterosexual (to use terminology I know -nother doesn't like and I have come to that way of thinking but I am familiar and comfortable with using). My most serious relationships bar one have been with primarily men though.
