Just done the figures for April and did better than I thought - £150 ish left out of my housekeeping rather than the usual £50 :j
Don't really know how I managed it but here are a few highlights - any more suggestions please!
Implemented a "don't go out for less than one thing" policy with the car - e.g. "pop out for milk" and "go to the library" since we live 3 miles from the shops and have two toddlers (and buses that are twice a day only) I usually spend a whopping £150 per month on diesel - despite being a SAHM - this month £115.
Did meal plans and stocked up on multibuy stuff. This one was hard since the first week I spent £20 more than usual and I was ready to give up but because I had picked up multibuy stuff it meant that the next two weeks were 2/3 rds of my usual bill. Next step will be to look at the meal plans more carefully and work out which are the expensive meals and replace them more often.
Biggest single item saving from the groceries was for the kids munchies - would usually have bought the little boxes of raisins - 5 x 14g boxes for about 60p - this time round bought a bag from the baking section and put them in a plastic box instead - 500 g for 60p instead, added bonus is that the box is slightly bigger so the kids are eating more raisins and therefore not asking for other snacks so saved on those as well:rotfl:0 -
I think I need to add my bargain find of the week to my PIN money fund! Controlling my curly hair is a nightmare, so I decided to try this:
It's £4.29 in Boots, but I found it for £1.78 in Asda - "bargain!" I thought & bought 2. It came up on my receipt as 40p, so I've been back today & bought 5 more.
Total if bought in Boots - £30.03
Total in Asda - £2.80
Saving - £27.230 -
debbym - :T job on the raisins! Great bargain and a healthier option too
lucie - FANTASTIC! It's great that you've not only found a product to suit your type, but what a bargain! Those bottles should keep you going for a whileAnd you've made great inroads towards getting that chair :j

Well I spent a bit more today in order to save and increase my PIN money. I normally buy a weekly travel card to get to work which costs 19.50, I used to buy it 4 weekly but with holidays and such like it hasn't been worthwhile recently. However sitting on the train this morning I realised I will be in work for the next 4 weeks so bought a 4 week one which cost 70, so works out at 17.50pw, so that's 2pw for my PIN money.Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110

Talk about moving the goalposts! PIN money was supposed to be going on a family week away in the autumn (same as many I suppose) Now DH has been told he can have a month off so he wants to make it a "proper holiday" and have a month in Canada! We do have relatives over there so we could hire a camper van and do the rounds but it would still be about £10,000 for the four of us  If we do go it will take every penny of our emergency savings - so new target £2k by autumn- anybody got any tips on how to make bread and water more appealing?0
