Hi everybody
After leaving rented accomodation, I got an email from the DPS saying i need to log in with "the Deposit ID and your unique Repayment ID" "to review this proposal and confirm whether you agree with the distribution of funds".
I don't have any recollection of getting these. Probably my fault, but...
Who was supposed to give me these in the first place? The DPS or my landlord?
Thanks

For example I typed " I have lost my deposit ID" into the ask Emma a question box on here:
http://www.depositprotection.com/help/tenants.aspx
had you done so you would have found this :
"If you need a reminder of your deposit ID please complete our Online Form. Alternatively, you can call us on 0844 4727 000 to request a reminder of your deposit ID or a new repayment ID."0 -

Whats the proposal? Are you trying to get your deposit back? Ring them and chat to them, quite helpful.0 -
and to answer your question, your landlord should have sent your the 'Prescribed Information' relating to your deposit within 30 days of you paying it. There is a penalty if he failed to do so.
DPS woul also have sent you the ID I believe.
Deposits (Rules on deposit protection)
Localism Act 2011 (section 184 - updates to deposit scheme rules) Plain English explanation!
Prescribed Information (RLA links to various deposit schemes' documentation)
Re-issuing PI (when renewing a tenancy - Superstrike Vs Rodrigues - legal guidance)0 -
why not search the DPS' own help function for misplaced login ID ?
For example I typed " I have lost my deposit ID" into the ask Emma a question box on here: (link cut because I'm not allowed to post them yet - i_am_bob)

Thanks - in fact the email that triggered my question said that. That wasn't what I was asking about though. I was interested in who should have given me these numbers, not where to go if I'd forgotten them.
I know I can go to them if I've forgotten the IDs, but I don't know whether I have done that! I wondered if instead, they were never sent in the first place, by the letting agent. From G_M's answer, it sounds like that's not the case (edit: or at least, the DPS themselves would have sent it to me also).0 -
I don't think the deposit ID is part of the Prescribed Information, as this is essentially a detail of how the deposit scheme is managed and probably varies between the different schemes.
DPS would have sent you a confirmation by email if the landlord provided them with your email address when registering the deposit. I don't think that this is a requirement though. They might send it by other means if an email address is not supplied - don't know.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
