H Samuel Jewellery Insurance

Hi,

I am looking for a little help regarding claiming on H Samuell's Jewellery Insurance. I brought a necklace before Christmas and decided to take out the 2 year insurance that they offered me with the purchase.

Since then I have misplaced the receipt and the necklace has broken.

I went into the store and asked about how to make a claim, but was told without the receipt for the insurance I could not claim.

I am thinking that this must surely be wrong?

If I can prove purchase of the item and tell them the day it was brought I would expect them to hold the details of the insurance and therefore allow me to make a claim?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Josh

Did you break it accidentally or is it faulty?

Out of curiosity did they take your personal details for the insurance or not?

Could you not go in again and ask them to do a reprint of the receipt?

Thanks for the reply. It was broken accidentally and yes they did take down all personal details and then made a copy for themselves.

I asked about getting a copy in store and they said they could not do so without the original.

No, unfortunately I can't seem to find it.

At no point was i told that I would need the receipt to make a claim though.

I would of thought that I could contact the insurer and provide them with my details to get any insurance information I need to make a claim though?
  • How did you pay for it? If it was credit card or debit card you should be able to produce statements showing the payment which can be substituted for a receipt in most cases. They might argue it but if you ended up in Small Claims Court the judge would have none of it and they know that, so don't let them try to wriggle out of it.

Also even without the receipt they should have a record of the insurance policy. You could try calling them and asking them to look it up. If they want to be difficult you could put in a data access request.
  • Keeping receipts for expensive items would be a good habit to get into.

Do you have proof of purchase on a debit/credit card statement?

I used my debit card to pay and have found I do have proof on that months bank statement
  • Your bank statement should be enough if you can't find the receipt. See what they say, and let us know.
