N73 Packet Data Message

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could explain this to me. I have a Nokia N73ME, when I receive or make a call straight after I hang up I get a message "Packet Data Connection Active".

Now from what I can gather this is something to do with the mode the phone uses to keep connections active to the Internet. For example if your on 3G you can make a call and browse the net at the same time but when not in 3G you use GPRS and this then requires a pausing and restarting of the packet data connection.

Well this is all well and good but I have the connection setting as "when needed" and as I am not using the Internet, my phone is either idle or just being used for a call why is this connection becoming active?

Surely I am being charged for this data transfer that I am do not want?

Many thanks for your help in advance
