I can't find any mention of telephone service for non-Premier customers, but the above number is the 'chase-up' contact point for checking if a CHAPS payment has been actioned and received by the recipient. It's open 24 hours and, I assume, staffed by competent people (no disrespect to front line call centre operatives!).0 -

I'm not sure why you would be amazed. While it's not 100% clear cut whether it can be done for all customers from the link below, it can certainly be done by phone for Premier customers. I would expect most banks to allow CHAPS payments to be initiated through telephone banking.

Sending £100k via CHAPS will be a high-risk transaction, I'd be amazed if any Barclays customer would just be able to pick up the phone and initiate a £100k transfer if they'd never dealt with telephone banking before.DEBT FREE!
