Just complain via secure message, ignore their phone calls, and they will offer you £50 and double cashback for 6 months.

I think they have got wise to this. I did exactly as you suggested and they have offered the double rate, but not the £50 you mention.

The e-mail response looks like a very standard one, which, I guess, is no real surprise

Try again. I was very specific about wanting 50 pounds and better cash back. If not call their bluff and cancel - plenty of other cards around.
  • Will this affect the credit rating as whilst it is stated as " One account" its actually 2 credit cards. Will this show as 2 on a credit search ?. If it is then I will be ditching before the change

No, it'll show as one account still.

By pure co-coincidence, I did just that.

I told them 2% on Amex is useless as it's not widely accepted and would they offer 2% on the VISA instead. They declined that and offered me the £50, in addition to £15 if I spend £300 in the first three months and 2% on Amex, plus 1% on VISA.

I'm pleased with that and, like most, will just ditch the cards at the end of the six months.

Also from the long thread already about this, if you complain to Barclaycard you can end up with a £50 credit and double cashback for 6 months if you keep pushing them as compensation for the changes.

can the mods merge the threads? It might help by saving repetition....

I wonder if the £50 and 1% for 6 months is for top spenders ie good high value customers?
I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

Better to be approximately right than precisely wrong.
  • Quick secure message complaining and got this offer within the hour!
I can also include double cashback on both the new cards for 6 months from migration. This means for the first 6 months, you'll earn 2% cashback on your AMEX card, and 1% cashback on your Visa card and further I can offer £30.00 as a gesture of good will.

Article says this change takes effect on 02 May - that's only 2 weeks away now.

Anyone else still waiting to receive official notification from Barclays?

Or is it just me that will retain their 0.25% Cashback Mastercard from Barclaycard???

I haven't heard yet, so I assume I shall still retain my 1% Barclaycard World Cashback.... until they tell me differently.

Yes, it would help to merge the threads. But that would conflict with the site's policy of putting up an 'MSE News' item after we've been discussing it in detail for about two weeks and asking us what we think. All they have to do is read the Forum!
