Registering a second hand phone.

Hi all,

I hope this is the right place...

I have just bought a second hand phone and was wondering where/how I register that the phone is now mine so that no previous owner can call up and lock the IMIE. Is there some place I need to log this to or is it a case of any previous owner with the IMIE can turn my phone off at any time.

I am not at all sure how this works and am worried my money saving deal may turn into a brick at any time.

Thanks
Kevin.

You cannot just turn an IMEI off .
IMEI can be blocked by a network if the phone is reported stolen .
Suggest you register with Immobilize .

There is no such thing as registering the phone as yours.

You can't, it's one of the risks of buying a second hand phone. If the original owner decides to report it lost or stolen it's just tough luck. Hopefully you bought from someone trustworthy or a reputable shop.

    PS, it's IMEI.

As before, keep the receipt and if possible, a screen-print of any site you bought the phone from. Ideally ask fr the IMEI to be included on the receipt.

Make sure you record the phone on immobilise.com. If you can scan the receipt you're able to upload that for storage also. however, all that having been said, it's not a common problem. If you're wary of the seller, I'd suggest buying elsewhere.

All good advice. I'll get onto the web site and screen dump the ebay page.

Thank you all for your advice.
