    Has anyone actually used Steel Seal and actually kept and run the car to get genuine, first hand experience of it truly working?

    Yeah I know someone who used it and it lasted for a very long time, something like 4 years and he never held back from putting his foot down.

    I'm not convinced that steel seal isn't just plain sodium silicate though to be honest, sold at an inflated price. You can buy sodium silicate for very cheap, but steel seal is quite expensive. Apparently steel seal is 'reinforced'. Not convinced.

    Has anyone ever tried the egg fix?

    Th OP came here wanting to "Save Money" and looking for advice on how to re-coup some investment on a faulty car.
    Entering it in to a private sale at a car auction where it is "Sold as seen" and no declarations are requested is one way to do this.
    If someone buys it without inspecting, well that is the auction rules.
    Morals and Money rarely connect together well.

    There is no such thing ws a private sale at an Auction.

    OP needs to have a look around the engine as it couod be something as simple as a loose hose clip or weak expansion cap.
  • The egg thing works but its only temporary and you should really not drive hard or far as it can block up water returns in the block and block the water pump.


    K-seal does work but it depends on many factors, a minor HG leak it can seal, but if the head is warped to a certain point it will have no effect at all, plus if you keep adding K-seal to the system without first flushing it through you run the risk of blocking the blocks water system and overheating it anyway.


    Whats the cost of a salvage engine versus the losses of selling with the fault? if there no difference then sell with the fault, if theres a profit to be made with fitting a salvage working engine then I would say replace the engine.

    Agree. You are not a mechanic (I assume) and therefore have no business diagnosing the problem for a third party where there is a financialm transaction involved. Just describe the symptoms as accurately as you can without guessing at the cause. You risk a comeback from the buyer if you have said you think it is x when in reality it is y. And then, as stated above, add 'priced accordingly' to show you are aware that the car is now of lower value.

    This is especially important if you put it on eBay. You have to be completely honest and give the buyer no room to complain that they have been misled, and the advert wording documents this if there is a dispute. Having said that, I sometimes think buyers have had most of their brain cells surgically removed. I sold an item of clothing with a small ink stain on eBay. I mentioned the stain in the description, and included two photographs where the mark was clearly visible. The buyer wrote back to me "this article has a stain, I can't possibly accept it in this condition." I wasn't about to get into an argument over £20, so I refunded him. But I wouldn't like to be in that position over a car worth hundreds or more.
    If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

    Not Steel Seal, but my dad put K-Seal into his 4.6 V8 Range Rover which was losing an eggcup-full of coolant a month before it got any worse. After about a week there was no more coolant loss and he ran it for another 40K miles (on LPG) without any other trouble. Sold it on a couple of years ago, and it's still going on the original engine with no work. It's got more than 80K extra miles on since we K-Sealed it.

    If it's the 1.2 engined Corsa with a timing chain it could be the gasket on the chain housing/cylinder block joint. These go quite frequently & give very similar symptoms to yours.

    Got my boys done for £220 about 5 months ago
