Starting looking for new Desktop / Trade in Offers on Windows XP PC's

Thank you all.
You have got me thinking now.....(can you hear the funny noise!)Do I really need a new PC? or yet anyway!
I may stop looking for now. I also have here a very redundant Samsung N145 Netbook (with upgraded RAM can't remember what to!?!) that I never really got on with because of the ergonomics of looking down with my neck problem but also because I found the Trackpad to be rubbish (should have complained while it was under Guarantee really). I had previously thought about using it to help sort out my other really old XP desktop but not to set it up to work as a desktop to use this might solve the issues above that I didn't like about it I seem to remember it was ok speed wise?
So that has Windows 7 (starter?) if I dig it out can I somehow operate that and the XP desktop to have them both running same time / swap between them from the 1 monitor (old 19" Hanns G one) and 1 Wireless Keyboard -(this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Keysonic-ACK-540RF-Wireless-Keyboard-Integrated/dp/B002D117JW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1395001572&sr=8-2&keywords=keysonic)
That way I could see how I get on with it, whether it would suit my needs and still do some things- more of the offline stuff on the desktop?"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

And of course, putting a touch screen onto a desktop is a bad idea; (SNIP)
Thanks Prowla. As someone who'll be upgrading from Vista at some stage in the near future, I must admit the whole touch screen on a desktop scenario had me somewhat bemused, for the same reason, and I was thinking - "nobody seems to be questioning this idea": a bit emperor's new clothes..
I'm currently using a laptop on my desk with a separate keyboard (but that's only because the laptop's is playing up), but find the screen distance and typing position suits me anyway. Why would I want to stretch my hand out (and up) to a touch screen?!
As it happens I have a Nokia (um..checks) 800 which is probably considered old these days, and in that context the Windows software is fine, but I don't actually use it for serious work.
So what do you reckon? Go to Windows 7? I suppose I could get a new PC, partition it and dual boot to Linux as well, but to be honest, I can't be arsed and try and keep things simple.0 -

I'm totally with you there = bad ergonomics / biomechanics. To me the only time it would be better for your body etc. is if you had a standing workstation at the right height to touch the screen etc."Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

I run VMware Player on it and have Windows XP, Linux, Windows 8, UNIX, and other VMs (ie. computers which run in a window on the actual PC) which I can run on it. The PC is perfectly capable of supporting my needs (the need to run VMs meant I needed the 8 GB memory otherwise 4 would have been ample).
I sometimes think about replacing it with a newer model, but that would be because I want to, not because I really need to.0 -
Ta again. I managed to escape IT some years ago, but doing user specs I knew all about wants and needs! :-)
This year is my 20 year anniversary of being on the 'net (I still try and be economical with bandwidth for old times sake), and find myself getting less and less technical. :-)0 -
I'm currently using a Dell 755 SFF desktop, which I've upgraded the CPU to a Core2Duo E8400, and RAM to 8 GB. It's running Windows 7, and I've absolutely no intention of it going to Windows 8.

And there was me thinking that you need at least an i5 and 8GB ram to use Fakebook, with a bit of ebay thrown in.
(My processor is slightly less (E6500) and with 4GB ram have a couple of Linux/BSD VMs)Move along, nothing to see.0 -

Getting off topic, and I'm not helping.
Neighbour on one side spent £600+ on Samsung AIO, but *had* to later increase ram to 8GB.
Then drove 100 mile round trip because specific model wasn't available in local store that day.
Other neighbours £500+ from PC*****.
Neither neighbour does more than browse internet.
Shakes head in disbelief, both asked me what to buy and from where, gave MSE advice, totally ignored.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thank you all!
So I have just been out and spent £750 on a new PC.......as you mentioned above but now I'm stuck can someone come and show me how to use it?!?!?!? :rotfl:I only want to go on Facebook!
No but seriously I'm still unsure what to do but am currently very tempted by one of these for £249 most of the smaller one are a lot dearer:

Would it be a big improvement on using my N145 Samsung set up as a desktop?
***That's odd I can't put a link to it on Saveonlaptops? Something? keeps changing the link to that above tried on FF & Chrome too? Its this model but for £249 at saveonlaptops.***
