It seems that in some countries, Microsoft is indeed offering/sponsoring trade-in deals for XP users to get new computers, obviously focussing on Windows 8.1

Not sure if it has reached or will reach the UK though.

I appreciate all the replies and different views on W7 / 8 etc. ;)

But.......has anyone got any more suggestions to look at for my original questions.

    Thanks! :)

If you wanted to use the touch screen type interface its not that difficult especially for anyone that has used a smartphone .

If anybody touches my screen I am tempted to physically assault them.

I will be buying a new desktop in the near future...I will be looking for a Small Form type preferably as small & lightweight as possible but still with a DVD disk thingy...
That sounds like a laptop to me;)

    Cheers! :p

Whilst I totally agree I have a really dodgy neck so have never got on with the ergonomics of a laptop it just flares things up for me looking down at the screen like that. Which is why I am stuck with / limited to a desktop of some sort?

I have a 19" old hanns g screen at the mo, so also want a new screen at some point. I have looked at the All in One PC's but I'm not sure how reliable they are and if the screen brakes you loose everything then is that right?

Also I wouldn't be using a Touchscreen for the ergonomic reasons mentioned above! & Like Prowla said RSI etc!

You can use a laptop with a keyboard and mouse, so it becomes a desktop, but you have the flexibility if you need to take it with you.

    I agree.

I have a super-high-tech solution of perching my laptop on some old Yellow Pages, so the screen is higher, but with a separate keyboard and mouse. It's OK ergonomically (but need to be a little careful not to block the laptop's cooling vents - I imagine there are proper stands you can get which won't be too pricey).

A desktop with a teeny tiny screen.
Unless you have a separate monitor as well.
