Introducing Yourself to New Neighbours

How did you introduce yourself to your new neighbours?
Did you do it on completion, or when you actually moved in?
I thought of taking round something but I can't think of anything P.C.!! There's four other flats on the same floor...

Just go and knock on the door. "Hi, I'm me, just moved in and thought I'd introduce myself." You certainly don't need to take anything round. That'd be a bit wierd, imho.0

Didn't meet one of the nextdoor neighbours in the first property I ever bought till over a year after I moved in and that was only by chance as we bumped into each other when we were both at our front doors ^^
The first contact with our current neighbours probably was picking up a parcel left for us with them, or the other way around (we tend to get a lot of packages left with us for number 23, while ours mostly seem to get left with number 19).
I wouldn't say I'm a bad neighbour, just don't have much need to socialize with them...0 -
As has already been suggested, just knock and introduce yourself when you have moved in. No need to take anything0

When I moved in, I knocked on next door to find out what day the bin men came and introduced myself at the same time.

From my experience, flat dwellers tend to prefer to keep themselves to themselves - possibly because there's a fear of becoming too 'available', leading to unwanted sociability. I'd just wait until you happen to bump into them in the communal areas.
Just my opinion though. Depends on the type of flat and residents really. A studenty house would be a different matter.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

+1 for knock on door, no gift.
My neighbours took the initiative themselves on our moving-in day...0 -
When we moved in our neighbour came out to say hello and offer us a tea or coffee. We both said yes to coffee and he brought out two bone china cups on a tray with some biscuits (we were expecting a couple of mugs). Our other neighbours we met over the following weeks when we were in the close (although I was out there a lot as my youngest was 5 at the time so I went out with a coffee whenever she was playing with the other children).0

Alternatively just knock and say hiCurrent debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
I didn't bother and lived here for over a year, they don't disturb me and they don't disturb me0

Was off work for several days after and just saw people over fences or in street. Never lived in such a friendly place! Everyone's lovely (apart for a slightly strange lot next door, but at least they seem to be a nice family).
Rarely saw anyone in the other roads I've lived in and have never knocked to say hello. Always wait to see them.
If you don't bump into them within a week, consider knocking to say hi.
