Thanks for the warnings!
Yes, they've seen the ad on rightmove, they know what the asking price is, so if they're serious and honourable they'd kick off with an offer, conditional upon a survey.
And, yes, it would be easy for us to drop the price ourselves, without needing to employ these middle-men/women. (I add the "women" because I've been doing some mooching around since posting and have found that one such company is called "Ask Susan"! She looks oh-so-reliable.)
Have also found that the OFT has become involved regarding some of these companies, and that there have been reports of some companies ringing the vendor the day before completion and saying they'll only proceed on the basis of a further (massive) drop, i.e. getting away with paying the vendor only 40% of the original asking price, the vendor perhaps being about to complete on a new home or emigrate, etc., and having little or no choice but to comply!
So, I shall now tear up the letter from the sharks!
Thanks, all! So grateful for your responses!0 -
DRP , the whole business model of the companies operating in this industry is based , and can only succeed , if they purchase well under market value , some are very clever in dressing it up as a mainstream transaction but the facts are clear if you do a bit of research
The OP is better served talking to the estate agent come early summer if still not sold , going with any company liek this will cost them thousands , without a shadow of a doubt
I agree that this selling route is not a good idea, and i wouldnt be tempted unless very desperate.
Just playing devil's advocate - I don't think there is any problem with the way the OP's letter presented itself.0 -
AFAIK outfits like this buy at massive reduction, so unless you're under threat of repossession I'd steer well clear. But I think that's all been said by now.0

Glad you binned it, but is it just me, or did everyone else scroll down to see if the OP had managed to sell yet?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D
