SellQuickOffer.co.uk - they want to buy our house!

Our house has been on the market a fair while, but we're hoping for some viewers in April and May (the usual time for people to start looking at houses in earnest, we understand). If we've had no offers by the end of May we'll be lowering the price. (At the moment the price we're asking is exactly the market value, as calculated and shown on the Zoopla site.)

But this morning in the post comes a surprise: a letter from "www.SellQuickOffer.co.uk", of 3 Brindleyplace, Birmingham, advising "We can buy your house in 7 days". It would seem that they monitor ads on rightmove.co.uk and get in touch with houses that have been available for some time.

The letter says they would like "to make a free, no-obligation offer" for our property. The letter also states that there would be "No legal fees (up to £1000 on completion)"! (A contradiction which doesn't inspire confidence.)

We thought we might give them our phone number (as they require! they won't do it by email) in order to see what they'd offer us. We suspect it would be significantly less than the market value. But before we get in touch with them, we thought we ought to see if anyone has had any interaction with this company and how people have found them.

Please speak your mind! :)

(We wouldn't mind sending them details of our property and proceeding via email, but they insist contact be made by phone, which makes us wary, as all interaction would not be recorded in print.)

Many thanks.

Standard opinion on the many, many questions asked on here about this kind of company is that 99.9% of them are thieves and vagabonds.

Of course, this one might be the 0.1% that is decent and honourable.

Ask yourself why they have gone to the trouble of sending you a letter but leaving out the most important item which would be what they are willing to offer you.

Sounds like they want to buy it at a huge discount.

Am yet to hear any of these companies recommended on these boards (ignoring the spammers, obviously lol!). They tend to give a low valuation, then often drop the price again during the process at some stage.

unless you contact them, you'll never find out!

I don't see a problem with them contacting you by phone, as long as everything is confirmed in writing afterwards...

I see a huge problem with it.

If they were sensible and reputable their letter should have also included at least an indicative offer price.

They've seen the property on rightmove so must have something in mind.

That doesn't surprise me and I know nothing about them.

    Don't waste your time.

I don;t think that is an issue at all:

    i) they've probably sent out a few hundred or thousand letters.
ii) if they put a price/offer in writing then it may have implications and make it difficult when they want to offer a lower price later (ie. when they find your house is subsiding).

I believe that these companies have a bad reputation for a reason but I see nothing wrong from what information the OP has provided.

I think it's ludicrous. If someone wants to buy something from you they need to give you an indication of price otherwise there is no point.

DRP , the whole business model of the companies operating in this industry is based , and can only succeed , if they purchase well under market value , some are very clever in dressing it up as a mainstream transaction but the facts are clear if you do a bit of research

The OP is better served talking to the estate agent come early summer if still not sold , going with any company liek this will cost them thousands , without a shadow of a doubt
