Just read this on the BBC news website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26546100

It's funny coz I just had this very discussion at work due to a colleague complaining about his vodafone data connection being unreliable, and having moved from T-Mobile to Vodafone in the last year, my experience has been that T-Mobile works fine, while Vodafone leaves me without any data connection a lot of the time, even when my phone says it is connected.

I will be leaving vodafone when my 12 month contract expires as their network is dire, and they clearly have no intention to improve it if they can't even admit how bad it is.

Vodafone said it could not "take the results of this report seriously and neither should our customers".
This board seems to agree with Voda as, I think, ATM EE is the most complained about the deteriorating signal/coverage, not Voda - that is a direct opposite of the results of the 'study'.
  • I am having the exact same problem. No internet connection at all. No 2g 3g or 4g in the place I work. I only ever receive G or E on my phone and its so annoying. Surly if we pay for a service then we should get that service!

I'm so glad to see that I am not the only one having major problems with Vodafone. Hope everyone gets their issues sorted!

I think it really depends on where you are located. In London, any network will give you decent coverage. I actually have had experience with three, o2, ee & voda. While voda is the slowest all have constant and reliable connectivity.

Three was one of those network that was very voaltile, because they were a new network they focused on the major cities and were poor in smaller towns and villages.

I never had problems with my network coverage until about 6 months ago, Ive been with vodafone a few years now. I cant get my phone to stay on 3G, goes onto E and also GPRS which means calls cut off in the middle. I also have a tablet with vodafone, asked them to send me a new charger as it was faulty, they said no, so I had to make a trip to the nearest shop which isnt in my town, its some time away, they gave me another charger, worked for 6 weeks, now its not charging again.

My mum has had terrible problems with her phone, hers kept cutting off after about 3 seconds, couldnt have a conversation, all I would hear at the other end was a voice saying please hold, then the phone cut off.

She put it in for repair, came back, nothing had changed, asked them to repair it again, was told to go away and do a software update which had already been done, they eventually did put it in for repair again.

I have unlimited minutes on my phone and the deal is actually good, but its useless to me as more often than not I cant get connected to make a phone call.

I'll be cancelling my phone when the contract is up and I'll be buying a cheap tablet outright rather than taking out a contract for one again.

Awaits VP "fantastic" WRT response .....
  • I was all set to pay up my o2 contract (I am currently in dispute with them) and jump onto Vodafone's Red Hot contract but ever since I started regularly reading MSE it has been a pretty easy decision to avoid doing that!

Vodafone are still living in the dark ages clinging onto the times when they had the best network (2g 900mhz days), they are in denial about the state of their current network and IMHO to be avoided at all costs.
  • It would seem that the moral here is to stay with your present network if you are satisfied with it and resist the temptation to change just to save a few quid a month.
The important things with mobiles are good coverage, reliability and good internet speed rather than cost as it's no good having a cheaper contract if you keep having technical problems with the network.
  • Absolutely agree with Warhead.

Contrary to popular belief, mobile network coverage is different for each network.

If you are thinking of changing, spend 30 days on PAYG on the new network and see how you find it, THEN enter into a 2 year contract (if you really need to).

Even that isn't an absolutely reliable approach. I had a T-Mobile contract which was fine until they merged their network with Orange and it became unusable for data.

Things seem to have improved somewhat now with T-Mobile and I'm using their 6 months of data for £20 deal on PAYG.
